Call: 2024-25 Members-Only

Event Proposals


The Committee on the Annual Meeting and Public Events (CAMPE) invites all AMS study groups, chapters, and committees to submit proposals for members-only events to be held in academic year 2024-2025. AMS members-only events are intended to explore issues of common concern and increase opportunities for networking and engagement among the Society's members. The Committee particularly seeks online-only events, but will also consider proposals for in-person and hybrid events. Limited funding is available. Apply by 1 May 2024, 11:59pm ET.

Spotlight on New Research:

Ibero-American Music

The next AMS members-only event will cast a spotlight on new research in Ibero-American Studies. To be held on 17 April at 5pm ET. Marysol Quevedo and Belén Vega Pichaco will present their research on musical modernism in Cuba in the long 20th century. Register now!

Eileen Southern Travel Grants


Eileen Southern Travel Fund (ESTF) travel grants support annual meeting attendance as well as cohort and networking activities for minority undergraduates and terminal master's candidates interested in exploring careers in musicology. Applications due 31 May 2024, 11:59pm ET.

Annual Meeting Travel Grants


Want to attend the Annual Meeting, but lack travel funds from your employer? Apply for an AMS Annual Meeting Travel Grant! These grants are available to AMS members who have little or no financial support for travel to attend the Annual Meeting. Apply by 1 July 2024, 11:59pm ET.

Pre-Conference Scheduling Requests


Organizations interested in holding pre-conference events at the 2024 Annual Meeting may now submit room reservation requests! Pre-conference event space is first-come, first-served, and as space allows. Organizers must cover their own catering, A/V, and expenses.

Teaching Music History Conference


Register for the 2024 Teaching Music History Conference, which will be held 7-9 June 2024 at Columbus State University. The conference, which is organized by the AMS Pedagogy Study Group, will feature a special workshop, “Teaching the Blues through Ma Rainey.”

AMS Council Workshop: Governing the AMS


The AMS holds three online informational workshops each year to educate AMS Council members about the Society's operations. The next workshop, on Governing the AMS: Now and in the Future, will be held on 9 May 2024 at 5pm ET. By invitation only.

Join us at the Library of Congress on 29 May at 7pm ET for an AMS/Library of Congress Lecture by Danielle Ward-Griffin. Ward-Griffin will examine television and its influence on opera casting practices during the early civil rights movement. Learn more!

Board and Council Election Ballot Opens


The American Musicological Society is pleased to announce the nominees for the 2024 AMS Board and Council elections. Balloting for Board and Council elections is now open to AMS members and will close 11:59pm ET, 31 May. All current AMS members are urged to cast their votes. The winners of this year's Board and Council elections will be announced in June and begin their terms in November 2024. Sustainable Mentorship Program


The Sustainable Mentorship Program (SMP) provides robust, year-long mentoring to individuals with graduate training in musicology or a related field. This year the program will support four (4) cohorts across three mentoring streams. Applications due 30 May 2024, 11:59pm ET.

Select Award Deadlines Extended


The nomination deadlines for the AMS Teaching Award and the Roland Jackson Award, which honors works of musical analysis, have been extended to 1 May 2024, 11:59 ET. The Society urges members to nominate now to help ensure a competitive and representative award season.
