Robin James will lecture on "What was the Modern Rock 500?" as part of the AMS/Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Lecture Series on 19 September 2024. James will discuss what the Modern Rock 500 tells us about gender, differences between genres, and more.

AMS/Library of Congress: Heard on the Small Screen


Join us at the Library of Congress on 28 September 2024 at 2pm ET for an AMS/Library of Congress Lecture by Reba Wissner. Wissner will examine the music in Jack Arnold's and Henry Mancini's episodes of Peter Gunn, and explain Mancini's compositional process.

Paul A. Pisk Prize


The AMS is calling for applications for the Paul A. Pisk Prize. The Paul A. Pisk Prize is awarded annually to a graduate student who presents an outstanding scholarly paper at the AMS Annual Meeting. Apply by 1 December 2024, 11:59pm ET.

Early Music Program Fund


The Early Music Program Fund supports programming for researchers studying music in the period before ca. 1600. AMS chapters, study groups, and committees are eligible. Apply by 19 January 2024, 11:59pm ET.

AMS Council Workshop: Advancing the AMS Mission


The AMS holds three online informational workshops each year to educate AMS Council members about the Society's operations. The next workshop, titled Advancing the AMS Mission Over Time, will be held on 20 September 2024 at 3:00pm ET. By invitation only.

Roland Jackson Memorial Grant in American Music


The AMS is calling for applications for the Roland Jackson Memorial Grant. The grant provides funds to support the production of a project in musical analysis, such as an article, book, digital resource, performance, or syllabus. Apply by 1 December 2024, 11:59pm ET.
