Hello AMSA Tiger Families,
Wow! We ended October on a high note! Thank you to everyone that participated in our 2nd Annual Fall Festival. Whether you volunteered to set up, provided a vendor booth for families to enjoy, decorated your trunk for our scholars and families to enjoy, purchased tickets or donated candy to make the event even ‘sweeter’—we want to thank you! It would not have been such a huge success without our wonderful staff and families! So now, let’s take the same energy into November as we continue to focus on instruction and being thankful. We are in the middle of our 2nd quarter of the school year and we have many reasons to be thankful and celebrate. With that in mind, I am thankful for the opportunity to lead this amazing group of staff and scholars. We really are doing great things here at AMS Avondale. Process Over Product
If you have been tracking these articles since the beginning of the year, you are probably getting the idea that a growth mindset focuses more on the process of learning than the product. Always remind yourself or your scholar(s) to think “process over product”. When we tell ourselves that something is difficult to the point that we do not try, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. The inevitable thought of failure is focusing on the product. This is a fixed mindset.
A growth mindset consists of persistence. Persistence through the process, of course. Yes, the product is still a factor, but it is not part of the learning goal. The learning goal is within the understanding of what changes we must make during the process. The biggest change during the process is allocating more time. Allowing more time during the process allows us to reflect on or recognize when we are thinking or doing something that keeps us from succeeding.
One word comes to mind, when it comes to learning through the process: metacognition. To put it simply, metacognition is the intentional act of thinking about our thinking and learning during the process.
People with growth mindsets ask themselves questions while learning or applying learning. They challenge themselves to think more about what they are doing versus jumping and settling with initial thoughts. At the same time, they also celebrate forward movement, whether big or small. Once again, persistence during the process.
Persistence does not always lead to a successful product, but it will always be a successful process. Practice does not make perfect, it makes permanence.

What is a Be Kind School?
As a be kind school we used comprehensive year-round solution to improve social skills and academic achievements, as define by the be kind people project.
Learn the Be kind Pledge with us!
The Be Kind Pledge teaches 10 essential skills of kindness, setting expectations using positive language. The evidence-based character education model helps students learn pro-active solutions for bullying, cyberbullying, civility, respect, and success. We recite the Be Kind pledge each day in our classrooms, we would love if you could practice it with your scholar.
November Pledge skill of the Month – Be Thankful
“Being thankful means taking the time to reflect on who or what is important in your life and expressing gratitude! When we take this time to reflect on what we’re thankful for, we’re practicing being self-aware and developing a well-grounded sense of self and purpose.”
We are fortunate to add Gabrielle “Gabes” Bernal and Emmanuel “Kunte” Moore to our team to help us facilitate the be kind curriculum and build relationships with our scholars, as Americorp volunteers. They will be on campus every Tuesday and Thursday from 9am – 11am.

World Kindness Week is November 7th, 2022 – November 13th, 2022.
AMS Avondale will focus on the Bee Kind’s November Pledge Skill: Be Thankful.
There will be campus wide challenges and activities throughout this week.

November Student of the Month
Fryda Soto Bajeca

Fryda is currently a scholar in Mr. Kpetigo’s first grade classroom. She is always showing R.O.A.R.S expectations, being kind, and helping her peers whenever possible.
Fryda’s favorite colors are pink and purple, she enjoys hanging out with her friends at school, coloring, and solving math equations. When asked what her favorite thing about Mr. Kpetigo is, Fryda responded that he’s always nice to the class and has a nice smile.

Wednesday: Be Thankful – Bring a thank you card or note to a teacher or friend you appreciate. To show our appreciation for our scholars this day is a free jean day
Thursday: Wear your pjs to school & remember 8-10 hours of sleep each night.

Hola familias de tigres de AMSA,
¡Guau! ¡Terminamos octubre con una nota alta! Gracias a todos los que participaron en nuestro segundo Festival Anual de Otoño. Ya sea que se ofreció como voluntario para instalar, proporcionó un puesto de vendedor para que lo disfrutaran las familias, decoró su caro para que lo disfrutaran nuestros estudiantes y familias, compró boletos o donó dulces para hacer que el evento sea aún más "dulce", ¡queremos agradecerle! ¡No habría sido un gran éxito sin nuestro maravilloso empleados y familias! Así que ahora, llevemos la misma energía a noviembre mientras continuamos enfocándonos en la instrucción y el agradecimiento. Estamos en medio de nuestro segundo trimestre del año escolar y tenemos muchas razones para estar agradecidos y celebrar. Con eso en mente, estoy agradecido por la oportunidad de liderar este increíble grupo de empleados y estudiantes. Realmente estamos haciendo grandes cosas aquí en AMS Avondale. Proceso sobre producto
Si ha estado siguiendo estos artículos desde principios de año, probablemente tenga la idea de que una mentalidad de crecimiento se enfoca más en el proceso de aprendizaje que en el producto. Siempre recuérdese a sí mismo o a su(s) estudiante(s) pensar en "proceso sobre producto". Cuando nos decimos a nosotros mismos que algo es difícil hasta el punto de que no lo intentamos, se convierte en una profecía autocumplida. El inevitable pensamiento de fracaso se centra en el producto. Esta es una mentalidad fija.
Una mentalidad de crecimiento consiste en la persistencia. Persistencia a través del proceso, por supuesto. Sí, el producto sigue siendo un factor, pero no forma parte del objetivo de aprendizaje. El objetivo de aprendizaje está dentro de la comprensión de qué cambios debemos hacer durante el proceso. El mayor cambio durante el proceso es la asignación de más tiempo. Permitir más tiempo durante el proceso nos permite reflexionar o reconocer cuándo estamos pensando o haciendo algo que nos impide tener éxito.
Una palabra me viene a la mente cuando se trata de aprender a través del proceso: metacognición. En pocas palabras, la metacognición es el acto intencional de pensar sobre nuestro pensamiento y aprendizaje durante el proceso.
Las personas con mentalidad de crecimiento se hacen preguntas mientras aprenden o aplican el aprendizaje. Se desafían a sí mismos a pensar más en lo que están haciendo en lugar de saltar y quedarse con los pensamientos iniciales. Al mismo tiempo, también celebran el movimiento hacia adelante, ya sea grande o pequeño. Una vez más, persistencia durante el proceso.
La persistencia no siempre conduce a un producto exitoso, pero siempre será un proceso exitoso. La práctica no hace la perfección, hace la permanencia.

Fryda es una estudiante en la clase de primer grado con Sr. Kpetigo. Ella siempre muestra las expectativas de R.O.A.R.S, es amable y ayuda a sus compañeros siempre que sea posible.
Los colores favoritos de Fryda son el rosa y el morado, le gusta jugar con sus amigos en la escuela, colorear y resolver ecuaciones matemáticas. Cuando se le preguntó qué es lo que más le gusta del Sr. Kpetigo, Fryda respondió que siempre es amable con la clase y tiene una linda sonrisa.
