President's Message
This will be the last article I will write as the AMTA-IL Chapter President, and I hope that during my term I have been able to make a positive impact on both the current and future, of the AMTA-IL Chapter.

Thank you for the opportunity to lead, and for your patience as I grew in my position. It has been my honor to serve you, our members, for the past four years. I have enjoyed serving on the Chapter Board of Directors with my fellow board members; and along the journey I learned so much from everyone involved, from my fellow board members, committee members, delegates, national office staff, and our members. This is definitely one experience I will never forget!

My journey in leading the Chapter wasn't done alone. I was accompanied by my fellow board members and volunteers, who shared in our successes and learned from our failures. I want to thank each of them, but my thanks also goes out to you, the Members, for your support during these years of change.

Changes-Elections 2016
For the first time in Illinois, we will be conducting our voting for the AMTA-IL Board positions and the Delegate
positions online, utilizing "Simply Voting."
Moving to online voting allows the whole of the eligible members from Illinois to cast a vote, verses only the members who are able to attend the annual meeting.
"Simply Voting" is a resource used by AMTA national and other AMTA state chapters to conduct elections online.

Incredible Volunteering
"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do."  ~Edward Everett Hale
As Secretary of the Illinois Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association, it has been my privilege to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. The Board consists of the President, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, and Member at Large. Each month, with a few exceptions, we meet (either face to face, through conference calls, or internet video) to discuss various issues involving the association. Always, the most important topic is how we can best serve members. That may be through continuing education offered to members at discounted prices, legislative issues that either impact the good name of the massage therapist, or may infringe on the right to practice, and we are always looking at ways to get more people involved.

Happy New Year my fellow AMTA-IL members! I hope you enjoyed the holidays and are keeping warm.

So this year, my main goal is going to be developing the committee. How am I going to achieve this? Getting out and meeting you, the members. I am going to commit myself to "Last Sunday Lunches." The Last Sunday of each month, starting January 31st, I will host a meet up for any member who wishes to join, with the focus being Outreach development.

Membership Corner
Hello everyone, I can't tell you how excited I am for our 2016 AMTA IL STATE CONFERENCE & ANNUAL MEETING!

AMTA Helps Advance the Profession in 2015
Partnerships, Research and Education

In 2015, the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) made significant progress in advancing the art, science and practice of massage therapy. The association's efforts included building partnerships to advance massage therapy education and standards; expanding relations with a variety of health care associations and organizations to build respect for the profession and increase opportunities for integration of massage therapy into health care; and supporting clinical research on the benefits of massage therapy. AMTA also continued to promote the efficacy of massage therapy to consumers and developed an effective tool to help massage school students be prepared for their new profession.

"In September 2015 at the annual "For Kids' Sake" 5-K Fundraiser", which helps children in Bangladesh, students and their instructor, Bill Connell (shown in picture) of John A College in ,Illinois provided post event sports massage to participants. John A Logan is an AMTA member school and partners with AMTA-IL Community Outreach in the continued effort of educating the public about the benefits of massage therapy while providing hands-on practice for the students."
