Government Relations Update
Our chapter leadership has been following closely Assembly Bill AB86 this legislative session. The legislation is designed to allow certain exemptions from state licensing statutes to complementary and alternative healthcare providers. The bill contains several exemptions for bodywork practitioners (which is consistent with our existing licensing statutes in Wisconsin Statues 460). However, the original drafts of this bill included massage therapy and massage as practices that could also be exempt. Our chapter lobbyist along with our chapter president met with the bill sponsor, Representatives Dittrich, and she agreed to offer an amendment to remove massage therapy and massage from the bill. This will protect our practice protection as a licensed occupation in Wisconsin should this legislation pass and be signed into law.

You may see the bill along with the amendments online at
2021 Wisconsin Meritorious Award
Our Chapter's 2021 Meritorious Award was awarded to our Chapter President, Dr. Jeffrey Montoya. Jeffrey is currently completing his second term as our chapter president. In addition to his volunteering for our chapter, Jeffrey currently volunteers on a working group for the International Consortium on Manual Therapies. He is also a volunteer on the community committee of the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. He has served on the Chapter Relations Committee for AMTA National and he is the Chapter Presidents' Council's Moderator-Elect.

In 2020 he founded the Academy of Health, Inc the only not-for-profit private massage therapy school in Wisconsin with a vision of making massage education more affordable and welcoming more therapists into our profession.

Thank you to our long-time member Elizabeth Krizenesky for her nomination of Jeffrey for this award.

2022 National Convention - Reps Needed
Wisconsin Chapter Representatives Needed for 2022 National Convention

Each year our Chapter sponsors chapter members to serve as chapter representatives at the AMTA National Convention. The chapter representatives receive a budget from the chapter of $1,700 to be reimbursed for convention expenses including travel, hotel and convention registration.

The AMTA 2022 National Convention will be held in Cleveland, Ohio August 25-27, 2022

It is an expectation of our board that chapter representatives are fully engaged in the Convention. For the chapter to reimburse expenses, the chapter representative must be actively attending convention functions and classes each day for which reimbursement is sought. All chapter representatives agree to write an article for our chapter newsletter detailing their experience at National Convention.
