Leader Highlight
Iulia Dobrin, Advocacy Chair
Iulia is a rising senior at the University of Michigan studying public policy on the pre-med path with a focus on health policy and a minor in Biochemistry. She joined AMWA through her university branch and loves getting to be more involved on the national level. She is particularly interested in workplace policies that disproportionately affect women’s health, such as paid family leave, and closing the equity gaps in healthcare education and administration. In addition to AMWA, Iulia was a research assistant in the Diabetes Care and Complications Lab where she worked with diabetes patients to improve their understanding of hypoglycemia. She is also on her school's newspaper as a videographer and writer. She appreciates the AMWA community for how it has brought her closer to like-minded, driven women who inspire her to become a passionate and intentional future medical leader.
If she had to give advice to women considering a healthcare career, she would say to find uplifting communities of other people on the pre-health path, but also lean your other non pre-health social networks for support! Being surrounded by the pre-health culture can sometimes be overwhelming, so she finds it SO important to not get too sucked up in comparing yourself to others and keep true to your interests and passions.
Fun fact: Iulia is a HUGE Star Wars fan!
