Branch Highlight:
Ohio State University
|
|
Last weekend, the AMWA branch at Ohio State University participated in a very fun volunteer event called Wagons Ho Ho Ho. This event is held every year in Columbus, OH and helps provide food for over 1,500 families in need this holiday season, as their mission is to help every family have a joyful holiday. AMWA at OSU helped by collecting food to donate and helping build the cute and festive red wagons for the food to be delivered in.

Leader Highlight
Cailin Born, Region 9 Director
Cailin Born is a second year premedical student at University of California, Berkeley studying Molecular & Cell Biology and Psychology. She joined AMWA in Fall 2020 and quickly fell in love with the work she was involved in on the Mental Health Committee, led by Anna Vardapetyan. She is passionate about destigmatizing mental health, learning how to increase minority representation in healthcare, and advocating for premature birth and neonatal death research. As region director, Cailin hopes to be a resource to all members looking to find their place in medicine. Outside of AMWA, she is an active member of the environmental community on campus and can often be found working on her latest knitting project. AMWA has given her a place to feel supported and encouraged in her dreams, and she wants to share that experience with others.
Her advice to young women:
Attend workshops you find interesting! Cold email people! Apply for things you don’t think you’re qualified for (you probably are)! See where your curiousity takes you. Surround yourself with others who will support you in your ambitions. Do something fun purely for yourself each day. Take care, Cailin :)
