Help with AMWA's Food Insecurity Advocacy Project!
|
|
Join this interactive advocacy campaign to increase awareness and education about food insecurity, as well as create a cookbook to distribute to food pantries.
We need YOUR HELP to create a low-budget, healthy cookbook representing various recipes that are meaningful to AMWA members. We are collecting recipes and a short story about why the recipe is meaningful to the member who submitted it or if there is a cultural relevance to the recipe.

Membership Scholarship (Need-based fee waiver)
AMWA understands that the cost of joining professional organizations such as AMWA can be a burden when taking into consideration the cost of applying to medical school and other expenses. In an effort to be more inclusive and break down financial barriers, AMWA has created a need-based membership scholarship for students interested in joining AMWA. Recipients of the scholarship will be chosen on a rolling basis based on extenuating circumstances and personal embodiment of AMWA’s goals.

Leader Highlight
Sophia Hai, Region 2 Premedical Director
Sophia Hai is a second-year undergraduate at the University of Southern California, studying Human Biology with a double minor in Health Care Studies and Performance Arts Studies. She is a Research Assistant for Keck Medical Center's Department of Radiology in breast imaging studies as well as Keck's Emergency Medicine Research. She is also an EMT for her university's EMS organization and American First Responder. In her free time, Sophia loves watching movies, shower singing, and being a dog mom. She hopes to pursue medicine as a physician in the future and promote women's health in the field.
Sophia's advice to her fellow-premeds would be to never forget to appreciate all the things life has to offer. It can be so easy to get lost in the stress and anxieties of being a premed, but taking the time to remember that the journey is just as important as the destination is invaluable.
Fun fact: Sophia has been trained in musical performance for 8 years and has gotten to perform on a Royal Caribbean Cruise, the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway, and 54 Below in NY!
