Global
ANAC submitted a letter to the Senate and House Foreign Relations Chairs urging the committee to confirm the nomination of John Nkengasong, PhD, as Ambassador-at-Large and Coordinator of United States Government Activities to Combat HIV/AIDS Globally at the Department of State. In that role, Dr. Nkengasong will lead the President’s Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Nominated in September 2021, that appointment has stalled in Congress for more than five months.

ANAC joins with many across the globe in mourning the untimely death of Dr. Paul Farmer, a leader in global health, compassionate care, social justice and health equity. He cofounded Partners in Health, which provides quality health care, including HIV prevention and treatment, across the globe, often through nurse-led care.
Research
Apply for the Sigma/Association of Nurses in AIDS Care Grant research award by April 1! The goal of this award is to encourage research career development of nurses through support of clinically oriented HIV/AIDS research and increase the number of HIV studies being done by nurses.

The International Nursing Network for HIV/AIDS Research (the Network) is an affiliate of ANAC, and many ANAC members are active researchers and participants. We have recently updated the Network’s page on our website.
Conference
Our 2022 annual conference will be held Nov. 17-19 in Tampa Florida. Like you, we are troubled by efforts in the state legislature and governor’s office in support of harmful anti-LGBT and anti-reproductive health efforts and rhetoric. Our presence there, including content on LGBT and reproductive rights and the opportunity for media coverage will draw attention to the issues. Our support and focus on agencies and individuals doing the work locally to support these issues is important. Additionally, like all our conferences, we signed a contract with the hotel more than three years ago with a standard clause that includes a severe penalty (more than $100,000) for breaking the contract. We hope that you will stand in solidarity with people and providers in Florida that may be affected by these regressive and harmful proposals and attitudes by attending the conference and speaking out about the right way forward.
Policy
The HIV Policy Project at the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University released a new brief and infographic, Big Ideas: Improving the Quality of Life of People Living with HIV Must Guide the Implementation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, which detail four policy priorities related to SDOH and QOL.
Clinical
The NIH Office of AIDS Research has issued Updated Guidance for COVID-19 and People with HIV, noting that several new advances in COVID-19 therapeutics have provided more guidance on the prevention and treatment of COVID-19, including for people with HIV.

ART Treatment and PrEP prescribers: The AETC is conducting a survey to evaluate the number of currently practicing healthcare providers prescribing HIV antiretroviral medication and the number of care providers projected to continue to provide HIV-related care over the next five years. Your feedback is valuable! Take the survey.
Education
ANAC is hiring a Director of Education Programs. This full-time, senior position will be responsible for developing and expanding educational and other professional development programs for ANAC members and the wider health care provider community. Please share this opportunity with qualified HIV nurses.

HRSA's HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB) has relaunched its website with a new look and a new URL: ryanwhite.hrsa.gov. This change will help people searching for information on the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) more easily find the website. Pages include HIV Care and Treatment, Grants, Data and other resources.
JANAC
The January/February issue of JANAC includes an editorial, Making a Difference, Making a Change by JANAC Editor-in-Chief, Michael Relf. In it, he urges readers to reach out to nursing students and emerging HIV nurse clinicians and mentor them to strengthen the HIV nursing leadership pathway, built on shared passion and commitment. He reminds readers “Until there is true equity for all persons... there is work to be done." Log into JANAC in the member portal for this and other inspiring articles.
Membership Directory
In January, we launched the improved Membership Directory. Log into your ANAC membership and input your information, including interest areas. You can search for ANAC members in your area, globally or by shared interests. For more information contact Nakera Dumas, ANAC membership & chapter manager.
