ANAC supports ANA call for vaccine mandate
ANAC joins the American Nurses Association in support of healthcare employers mandating nurses and all healthcare personnel to get vaccinated against COVID-19 per current recommendations for immunization by public health officials. This aligns with ANAC's long-standing policy regarding immunizations for healthcare workers.

So much has changed over the past year and we are looking forward to reconnecting and discussing important developments in our field. The conference will be held in person and we will adhere to the latest guidelines from the CDC and the local health department. We encourage attendees to be fully vaccinated.

Pre-conference listening sessions with representatives from various federal agencies will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10. Plan to attend and share your experiences with them!

The International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2021) was held virtually July 18-21 and focused on the future of HIV treatment and prevention, along with the impact of COVID-19 on people living with HIVView some of the conference highlights.



Scientific American article applies COVID-19 lessons to fighting HIV
A recent article in Scientific American titled "Let’s Use the Lessons from COVID to End HIV" explores how healthcare systems can apply lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic to combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

New York Magazine publishes summary on Delta variant
New York Magazine published a summary Aug. 6 that provides information about the Delta variant and discusses its increased transmissibility, among other factors.

ANAC and CCO offer regional webinars on frontiers in HIV prevention
ANAC, in partnership with Clinical Care Options (CCO), is offering regional webinars on HIV prevention, presented by ANAC clinical experts. They will explore current and next-generation PrEP options and are CNE eligible. Be on the lookout for registration information for a webinar in your region soon!

WHO warns HIV increases risk of severe and critical COVID-19 symptoms
The World Health Organization released a new report confirming that HIV is a risk factor for both severe/critical COVID-19 hospitalization and in-hospital mortality. Underlying co-morbidities such as diabetes and hypertension are a factor. This highlights the need for PLHIV to stay as healthy as possible, and for providers to ensure and counsel about regular access to medications to control HIV and prevent and manage underlying conditions.

Preventing HIV infections during a new pandemic
A recent report from the Global HIV Prevention Coalition, a collaborative effort by UNAIDS, WHO, PEPFAR and others details how the COVID-19 pandemic challenges forward momentum in HIV prevention. It describes how gaps and threats to progress show great inequalities and societal barriers for the people most left behind and disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. A critical analysis summarizes the detrimental impact on vulnerable populations, particularly women and children.

NIMH Research Education Mentoring Program accepting applications
The NIMH Research Education Mentoring Program will accept applications for educational programming that support both research experiences and mentoring activities. Applications are accepted through Sept. 7.

NINR requests feedback and ideas for future research directions  
The National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) is collecting input as they develop their 2022-2026 strategic plan, outlining their vision for nursing science. They are encouraging everyone (investigators, students, organizations and the public) to provide feedback and/or ideas. You can visit the NINR Strategic Plan (2022-2026) – Under Development for more information.

ANAC chapter in India receives COVID-19 relief funds raised by ANAC members
Fr. Tomy recently confirmed that the more than $15,000 raised in June to support our friends at Bel-Air Hospital, the home of the ANAC chapter in India, was received. To date, the hospital has treated 1,420 COVID-19 patients and vaccinated more than 53,000 people. Thanks for giving, ANAC!
