This year we are excited to offer more conference scholarships, but we need your help to make it happen. All donations to our general fund from July 1 to Aug. 1 will go to conference scholarships. Applications will open Aug. 1 for full or partial scholarships to attend conference. We currently have two full scholarships available. However, YOU can help increase the number of scholarships by donating today! Use this opportunity to donate in someone’s honor or memory and help us offer more scholarships to ANAC2021.

Local pre-conference activities will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10. Unfortunately, we had to cancel a pre-conference Capitol Hill day due to visitor restrictions at the Capitol. More information about pre-conference activities will be shared in the coming weeks.

Policy committee hosts webinar on housing insecurity and people living with HIV
ANAC’s policy committee hosted a national webinar, “Housing and its Importance in Ending HIV”, last month. Lauren Banks Killelea from the National AIDS Housing Coalition examined current issues around housing insecurity and the impact on people living with HIV. Click here to view the recording.

ANAC raises more than $15,000 for COVID-19 relief in India
Thank you to everyone who donated to our ANAC fundraiser for COVID-19 relief in India last month. Together, we raised more than $15,000 to support our friends at Bel-Air Hospital, the home of the ANAC chapter in India. Your support will help nurses, many of them ANAC members, continue to care for COVID-19 patients and replenish supplies. Special thanks to ANAC member, Norma Rolfson and Father Tomy, the director of Bel-Air, for bringing this need to our attention. Thanks for giving, ANAC! 

Lucy Nyirenda wins 2021 ANAC Excellence in Global HIV Nursing Award
Congratulations to Lucy Nyirenda, program coordinator for Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance in Malawi, who has won the ANAC Excellence in Global HIV Nursing Award. The award will be presented at the award ceremony at the ANAC2021 conference in Washington, D.C.

UNAIDS shares information about ending the AIDS epidemic
A press release from UNAIDS was shared June 3 with evidence that ending the AIDS epidemic is achievable, showing that several countries achieved or exceeded the 2020 targets set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2016.

Global committee hosts webinar on COVID-19 response around the world
The global committee sponsored a webinar, “COVID Response: Voices from Global Nurses” on June 23. Panelists represented the United States, United Kingdom, Philippines, Malawi and Guyana and discussed the COVID situation in their countries.

ANAC and CCO offer regional webinars on frontiers in HIV prevention
ANAC, in partnership with Clinical Care Options, is offering regional webinars on frontiers in HIV preventions throughout the summer and fall, presented by ANAC clinical experts. They will explore current and next-generation PrEP options and are CNE eligible. Attendance is open to ANAC members, friends and colleagues. Be on the lookout for registration information for a webinar in your region soon!

HIV and Aging page on ANAC website updated
The HIV and Aging page on ANAC's website has been updated with new articles on COVID-19, clinical updates, policy updates and information on upcoming meetings and conferences.

CDC releases new guidance for treating post-COVID conditions
The CDC calls for holistic medical management in the recently released "Evaluating and Caring for Patients with Post-COVID Conditions: Interim Guidance". This guidance provides direction on assessment, testing and management of post-COVID conditions. 

Palliative care committee hosts webinar on post-acute sequelae of COVID-19
ANAC’s palliative care committee hosted a national webinar on post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 on June 22. The panelists were ANAC members Cliff Morrison and James Halloran. Click here to view the recording.

June 5 marked 40 years since the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report identifying five cases of Pneumocystis pneumonia in gay men. The May/June issue of JANAC is a special issue: Nursing Science Throughout the HIV Epidemic. Invited authors and editors reflect on 40 years of HIV and AIDS. It opens with an editorial by Barbara Swanson, Patricia Cioe, Raquel Ramos, Allison Webel and Michael Relf titled "Nursing Science Throughout the Epidemic, Lessons Learned and the Way Forward".

JANAC invites feature articles including original research and systematic reviews, as well as practice briefs, program briefs, commentaries and case studies. Read the full call for papers for more information.

Alanna Bergman awarded 2021 ANAC/SIGMA grant
Congratulations to the 2021 ANAC/SIGMA grant awardee, Alanna Bergman, MSN, RN, APRN, AAHIVS. Alanna's project, "Using Ethnographic Methods to Explore Stigma in South African HIV and Tuberculosis Clinics to Develop a Measure of Intersectional Stigma" will study people living with HIV, tuberculosis and in poverty in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

ANAC member Tavell L. Kindall, PhD, DNP, APRN, FNP received the 2021 AANP State Award for Excellence. It is given annually to a nurse practitioner in each state who has demonstrated excellence in clinical practice. Congratulations!

Dorcus Baker chosen to serve on committee for Annual International Workshop on HIV and Aging
Congratulations to ANAC member Dorcas Baker, RN, BSN, ACRN, MA who has been selected to serve on the scientific committee for the Annual International Workshop on HIV and Aging, which will be held virtually Sept. 23-24. The programming goal is to integrate geriatrics, internal medicine, HIV biology, pharmacology and psychology.
