ANAC members honored with grants from Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation

ANAC incoming President Mitchell Wharton, PhD, ACRN, FAAN, and ANAC DEI Committee member Chen Zhang, MPH, PhD, were awarded the Hillman Emergent Innovation grant for their study: "Increasing PrEP Utilization by Black Women Through AI." This grant will combine the holistic approach of nurse practitioners with AI technology to deliver personalized, culturally-tailored healthcare communication to augment HIV prevention strategies for Black cisgender women, who are disproportionately underrepresented among people using PrEP.

ANAC member, Dalmacio Dennis Flores, PhD, ACRN, FAAN, University of Pennsylvania was awarded a Hillman Innovation in Care grant. His project is entitled "Supporting the Well-Being of LGBTQ+ Adolescents and Their Families." This funding will expand Parents ASSIST (Advancing Supportive and Sexuality Inclusive Sex Talks), a nurse-driven, community-informed, digitally accessible intervention that offers parents the practical knowledge they need to fully support LGBTQ+ children as they navigate adolescence and a turbulent world.

The Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation provides grants through the Hillman Innovations in Care (HIC) and the Hillman Emergent Innovation Program (HEI) programs. The HEI program will accelerate the development of new models that challenge conventional strategies for delivering effective, just and equitable care. The HIC program, one of the Foundation’s defining initiatives, was created to accelerate the spread of evidence-based interventions that address the health and social needs of communities that experience discrimination, oppression and indifference.
