AIDSWatch 2023
ANAC members and HIV and Aging Scholars Sherí Wilson and Jahi Omari were part of the ANAC delegation that participated in AIDSWatch, the national HIV advocacy day on Capitol Hill educating legislators & their staff on the various aspects of HIV prevention and treatment and the holistic needs of people and communities affected by HIV/AIDS in the U.S.

CDC issues health advisory for Shigella
The CDC has observed an increase in antimicrobial resistant Shigella infections among adult populations, especially gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men, people experiencing homelessness, international travelers and people with HIV. Read the CDC health advisory.

ANAC award feature of the month
In 2021, ANAC member Lucy Florence Nyirenda, RNM, MSc, received the Excellence in Global HIV Nursing Award. Lucy is a registered nurse midwife with more than 15 years of experience in clinical nursing and management of health programs. She serves as program coordinator for Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA) in Malawi. She has extensive experience working as a public health provider, manager and proposal developer for health related programs that bring about sustainable changes in the lives of mothers, newborns, children and communities with poor access to health care services
The Global HIV Nursing Award is given every two years to honor an outstanding nurse living and working in a low or lower middle income country (per World Bank designation) who is doing exceptional work in promoting HIV nursing and supporting people living with and affected by HIV. The purpose of the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program (Nurse Corps SP) is to provide scholarships to nursing students in exchange for a minimum two-year, full-time service commitment (or part-time equivalent), at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. Johnson & Johnson Foundation is proud to support the Sigma Nurse Empowerment Program, intended for frontline nurses who wish to develop in their current role, or are interested in taking on new roles.
