Policy
Policy Agenda
The ANAC policy agenda for 2022-2025 was adopted by the board of directors on Sept. 18, 2022. It was developed by the policy & advocacy committee, based on the ANAC mission, values, committee member expertise and perspectives and feedback from a member survey conducted over the summer. It is organized around four pillars that are broad-based and provide the framework for individual, chapter, and organizational global and domestic efforts in education and advocacy on specific health policy issues within each pillar.

American Nurses Association (ANA) Statement
In June, the ANA Membership Assembly, ANA’s highest governing body, took historic action to begin a journey of racial reckoning by unanimously adopting the ANA Racial Reckoning Statement.
Leadership
Welcome new board members
The ANAC board of directors will welcome Debra Winters, APRN, ACRN to the board in November. She was elected by the membership to a three-year term as ANAC board treasurer and board member. She currently serves as ANAC global committee co-chair, and is an experienced nurse clinical leader as a clinical director of New England AETC.

Dalmacio Dennis Flores, PhD, ACRN was appointed to a one-year term to fulfill a vacancy created when Jasjit Gill, PharmD resigned from the board due to a change in employment. We thank Jai for his service and commitment to ANAC and ANAC's mission.

Innovation Awards
ANAC members are invited to apply for the ANA Innovation Awards, to recognize and highlight the innovative work happening across the nursing profession. There is a $25,000 individual award and a $50,000 nurse-led team award. Innovation comes in many forms, so please consider applying. You do not need to be an ANA member to apply. Deadline is Nov. 4 at 5 p.m.

This year, the contributions of an extraordinary ANAC member, William (Bill) Holzemer, RN, PhD, FAAN are celebrated, as he is recognized as a Living Legend of the Academy of Nursing. Each year, the Academy recognizes a small group of fellows as Living Legends in honor of their extraordinary contributions to the nursing profession, sustained over the course of their careers. Bill is a thought leader in HIV/AIDS issues and research and was a founder of the International Nursing Network for HIV Research, an affiliate of ANAC. His early work on HIV associated stigma forms the basis for much of our understanding of its impact on people living with HIV.
ANAC member, Carl A. Kirton, DNP, MBA, RN, ANP has been appointed editor-in-chief of AJN, the American Journal of Nursing. Prior to joining AJN, he was the chief nursing officer at University Hospital in Newark, NJ, the associate editor of the Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (JANAC), and the senior associate editor of Annals of LGBT Public & Population Health.
Congratulations to the ANAC members who, between Jan. and Sept., successfully qualified as HIV/AIDS certified nurses, indicating expertise in advocating and improving the quality of care for HIV/AIDS patients.

HANCB offers three levels of certification: HIV/AIDS Certified LPN/LVN (ACLPN), HIV/AIDS Certified Registered Nurse (ACRN) or Advanced HIV/AIDS Certified Registered Nurse (AACRN). For more information visit hancb.org.
