HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day
June 5
HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day is held June 5 each year to raise awareness of the needs, issues and journeys of the long-term survivors of HIV. Today and every day, ANAC is committed to education and advocacy to promote optimal care and quality of life for people living and aging with HIV. Our work is guided by a multidisciplinary HIV & Aging Expert Advisory Committee that includes people living with HIV. This year, we asked members of our advisory committee to share their thoughts on this important day.
“HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day spotlights the first generation of PLWHA and creates action to improve quality of life. Our stories are powerful examples of resilience; let's tell those tales.”

“For me, HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day means recognizing and honoring the strength, resiliency and courage of people who have been living with HIV for many years.”

Chair, US PLHIV Caucus
"When HIV was declared a manageable chronic health condition in 2012, I breathed a sigh of relief and knew that I could live a lot longer than I previously thought. I advocate for policies, legislation, services, resources and research so that others don’t have to feel forgotten or invisible. Twenty-three years and counting being HIV+ - that’s HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day."

“HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day is an opportunity to celebrate all of my community that is surviving and even thriving with HIV, including the verticals who often are not included. It is also a time to remember those who are no longer with us, whose fierce advocacy and passion demanded more inclusion, services and funding for people living with HIV.”

Training and TA Director
