National HIV Testing Day

National HIV Testing Day encourages people to get tested for HIV, know their status and get linked to care and treatment or prevention services.

The theme for 2024, “Level up your self-love: check your status” emphasizes valuing yourself, showing yourself compassion and respect and honoring your health needs with self-love. Knowing your HIV status helps you choose options to stay healthy.

The National HIV/AIDS Strategy and the U.S Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative focuses on four key strategies that, together, can end the HIV epidemic in the U.S.: Diagnose, Treat, Prevent and Respond.

It starts with testing and HIV self-testing programs like Together TakeMeHome which provides free testing to people who do not have easy access to in-person testing services and can reduce stigma for those who may be reluctant to go for an in-person HIV test.

Improved, more accessible and routine HIV testing has many benefits. Early detection coupled with rapid linkage to care for people who test positive is critical and can lead to improved individual and community health outcomes. Connecting those who test negative to appropriate prevention services including PrEP, is important for individuals and communities.
