Each year since 1988, December 1 is acknowledged as World AIDS Day. It remains as relevant now as ever, reminding the public that HIV has not gone away. But more than a day, it's a global focus and time of solidarity for people around the world who are affected by HIV. It serves as an opportunity to celebrate the courage & resilience of people living with HIV, remember those lost, acknowledge the caregivers and renew our commitments to addressing the many factors that still stand in the way of ending the HIV epidemic here in the US and across the globe.
In the U.S. at HIV.gov the theme is "Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV progress." Across the globe, through WHO, the theme is "Take the rights path: My health, my right!"
Both are true, inter-connected and articulate that HIV progress and human rights are intertwined.
We know that in 2025, there will be a critical need for increased individual, community, societal and governmental commitments to the many aspects of the HIV/AIDS response. We at ANAC join with you in pledging to continuing to work to increase awareness of the impact of HIV on people’s lives, to end stigma and discrimination and to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV.
