Anadach Webinar Series on Topic "Covid-19 in Africa"
In contributing to the efforts against COVID-19, Anadach has been very active with two programs running simultaneously. For first, we are working with People to People Inc. (P2P), to host a webinar series on COVID-19 in Africa. P2P is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care and reducing the spread of diseases, particularly in Ethiopia and in diaspora communities. It currently has over 100, 000 members across the world.
Africa faces an unprecedented challenge with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the population, economy and health systems. The relatively weak health systems coupled with the economic shutdown has resulted in a crisis that severely affects the health sector. Anadach has been active with two programs running simultaneously.

We hosted with the International Finance Corporation (IFC). a virtual meeting series titled "Promoting Innovations in HealthTech to highlight potential solutions to support the COVID-19 response in Nigeria". The series gave founders, entrepreneurs and promoters a platform to present early stage innovations to potential partners, investors and funders. To conclude the event, we are hosting a learning event to share key lessons and take-aways from the series with an audience of interested stakeholders. It will take place on Thursday, September 10 at 3pm Lagos/London time. Please register to attend the conversation here. We invite you to share this with your network.
COVID19 in Africa Series
The webinar goal is to provide a platform for healthcare workers to interact and sharing experience from countries affected earlier in the pandemic. So far we have hosted 5 two-hour sessions with speakers from Ethiopia Ghana, Italy, Nigeria, South Africa, UAE, UK, USA and Vietnam sharing their experiences in COVID-19. Topics covered range from Medical management, Diagnostic Challenges and Testing, Managing Severely ill and High risk Patients to Getting Children back in School safely. it has been attended by over 1000 people across Africa and elsewhere so far. We have been very fortunate to have senior policy makers including a minister, from several countries join us as special guests and distinguished speakers.
Some of the highlights of earlier webinars are as follows, The first webinar, very early in the African Pandemic, looked at the role of the private sector role in the pandemic response and how the private sector can be best harnessed for an effective response. The presentations and discussions highlighted the need for strong collaboration between the government and private sector for effective multiple responses in order to stem the growth of COVID-19 cases. Collaboration will ensure a coordinated response that will allow for mobilization of technical and financial resources required to fight the pandemic.
The second webinar focused on the medical management of COVID-19 and the ability and readiness of health providers and facilities to deal with the crisis. With the easing of mandatory lockdowns in many African countries, the disease continues to spread leading to increased hospital admission rates, often with limited access to testing. Given the rapidly evolving nature of COVID-19 and the varying spectrum of clinical symptoms, it is important that clinicians are aware of the best methods of managing the condition and protecting themselves and their patients during the pandemic.
Hospital preparedness should take on a public health approach, ensuring all decisions are centralized and uniform. Health providers need to practice readiness by constantly educating their staff and patients, embracing more flexible working models such as telemedicine, virtual staff engagement, case-by-case only clinic visits, testing & triage system and reassigned roles.
These conversations will continue fortnightly over the next few months covering issues of interest to physicians, nurses, other health workers and management involved in directly managing COVID-19 cases. The next webinar is on
