Nira Rahman, Lehman ’21, took on multiple environment-focused internships while staying involved on campus. She landed her first full-time job last year after earning her bachelor’s degree from Macaulay at Lehman during the COVID-19 pandemic, working as an environmental planner for the civil engineering consulting firm VHB. As she completes her master’s, Nira is ready to fully immerse herself in an environmental planning career.
How did she get here? Nira credits two of her mentors with promoting her success: Dr. Gary Schwartz, the former director of honors programs for Lehman, and Dr. Juliana Maantay, program director for the M.S. in Geographic Information Science. She will miss her many conversations with them, she says, adding that they motivated and challenged her as a student and young professional. The professors gave Nira access to opportunities that otherwise would not have been on her radar.
