PLEASE CONSIDER SERVING YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD

. . . on the JPNA boards and committees

Jefferson Park Neighborhood is one of the most active neighborhoods in Tucson. It has to be. It has many challenges: TEP 138Kv poles, Grant Road widening--Phases 5/6, helicopters, traffic issues, and the UA expansion, just to name a few. You may want to serve on a committee or apply to be on the board. The nomination committee is tasked with finding new volunteers--the pay raise was for elected officials! If you would like more information on how to become involved, contact the nominating committee chairperson, Laurel-Heather Milden at 520-393-0073 or trdswmn@cox.net

To see all the board positions go to:

DEADLINE TO CONTACT

THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE: DECEMBER 1

. . . on the "Friends" board

Friends of Jefferson Park, Inc. is the neighborhood non-profit which works hand-in-hand with JPNA. There are openings on the "Friends" Board, also another unpaid job. Review "Friends" online at

http://www.jeffersonpark.info/meet-the-board1.html

Several folks serve on both boards. Friends meets quarterly at the most, and often just one annual meeting. Much of its business is conducted by e-mail and brief in-person meetings. The next annual meeting is scheduled for January 15th at 5:30pm. Address to follow. If you are interested in working with this group, contact:

Joan Daniels, 520-300-1980 or jdchama@msn.com

THE FRIENDS NOMINATING COMMITTEE: JANUARY 2

2024 Roll-Off and Brush & Bulky Dates

ROLL- OFFS - Your neighborhood association contacts the city each year and sets dates for the Roll-offs. Thank you, Colleen. The dates for 2024 are Thursdays through Mondays:

3/21/24-3/25/24, 5/2/24-5/6/24

7/25/24-7/29/24, 10/24/24-10/28/24

If you forget these dates, or need the locations of the roll-offs within the neighborhood, go to jeffersonpark.info. Scroll down to "Jefferson Park Information".

BRUSH 'N BULKY - is scheduled by the city and residents recently received notice of those 2024 dates:

2/26/24 and 8/26/24

New "Possibilities" for 138Kv poles

Make your voice heard!

As you know, with the defeat of Proposition 412, TEP went back to the drawing board and presented the public with the newly named 138kV project, the Midtown Reliability Project. TEP has now published a new map with "opportunities", segments, seen as the green lines, for possible inclusion in the routes for the 138Kv pylons and overhead lines. You will recognize the shape of Jefferson Park. As you can see, there are many "opportunities" in our neighborhood. The red-hatched areas are "constraints"—regions identified as being more difficult to erect poles and lines.

TEP wants input. You will note that Jefferson Park has many more green "opportunities" than our neighbors. Our greatest problem is the current proposed substation location at Vine and Lester, forcing the lines into and out of JP. However, TEP indicates that they will consider other options for the substation.

At the November 15 neighborhood meeting, the JPNA Board strongly advocated that TEP move the substation, even suggesting other properties. TEP said they would take our suggestions into consideration. Think about what you want for your historic neighborhood. To see the map in greater detail and to add your comments, click on: https://www.tep.com/maps/midtown/

Perhaps this is a case of "the squeaky wheel" getting a pass. We need a great many "squeaky wheels"! We are up against a behemoth.
