Antonian College Preparatory High School

Dear parents/guardians,

By now, you should have received from us a formal letter from the Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Mrs. Marti West, regarding the steps to be taken regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). To recap, the following actions will be taken:

  • There will be no on-campus classes/athletics/extracurricular activities through April 3, 2020.
  • The faculty and staff will use the week of March 16-20 to prepare for the transition to distance learning.
  • We will implement distance learning beginning March 23. Further details of this plan will be communicated prior to the implementation date.
  • The Department of Catholic Schools will re-evaluate the circumstances on March 31st, at which time, more information will be provided.

Please know that we believe in the value of face-to-face educational experiences and expect that there will be some challenges as compared to the learning that takes place in our classrooms; however, we also believe that our Christian faith compels us to do our best to protect those who are vulnerable. The practice of "social distancing" is the best effort to help slow the transmission of the disease to others.

It is important to note that the administrative staff of Antonian have received no report of a member of the Antonian community testing positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). We strongly encourage forthrightness in all members of our community to share such information with us as warranted, understanding the need for health-related confidentiality. We once again request that families dutifully follow the self-quarantine measures established by the CDC.

We recognize that many students may not have taken pertinent study materials (e.g., textbooks, notes, etc.) from their lockers prior to spring break. For this reason, we will further discuss and evaluate the need/opportunity for controlled access to student lockers. More information will be provided in forthcoming updates as warranted.

We are in the process of establishing a separate page of the Antonian website related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and its impacts and will share the URL in a forthcoming update. On this page, we will post communications, schedule changes, and other important information to supplement that which is shared via our broadcast e-mail messages.
Specifically related to Antonian:
  • The Antonian Drama Society's production of The Little Mermaid will NOT take place as planned on March 19-22. It is the hope of the program that this will be rescheduled at a later date to be determined.
  • We have received word that the Texas Junior Classical League (TSJCL) has cancelled the state Latin convention that was to be held March 27-28.
  • The Kairos retreat (Kaios 5) will NOT take place as planned on March 23-26. It is hoped that this will be rescheduled at a later date to be determined.
  • The Cheer Lenten Fish Fry will NOT take place as planned on March 20. It is hoped that this will be rescheduled at a later date to be determined.
  • The TAPPS Executive Board has announced the following in regard to interscholastic competition:
    • Games/Contests - TAPPS is suspending all interscholastic competition through April 12, 2020.  Teams in competition today may conclude today's (March 13) activities.
    • Practice - If a school has closed its campus, which includes move to online or digital classes, practice is not allowed. (This is the case for Antonian.)
    • Fine Art Activities - As a result of the suspension of activities, the following fine art activities will have the method of competition amended to allow for the competition to move forward without the exposure of large crowds  or numbers of participants:
      • Music - Solo and Small Ensemble
      • Music - Medium and Large Ensemble
      • Academics
      • Speech/LD Debate
      • Art
      • Robotics
We will continue to send correspondence as new information is available. Once again, thank you for your patience, trust, and support.
