Summer Reading Suggestions
I Am Malala
By: Malala Yousafzai

Suggested by: Patrick Clausewitz (10th)

Theme: Restore, Reconnect, and Rebuild

Summary: Malala was in a bad part of the world and went to a girl school, which was widely frowned upon. Her bus was hijacked, and she was shot in the head, but she survived. This story goes over her journey and how she persevered.

Take Away: That you should always stand your ground and do what is right.
Parent Questions
Q: Are textbooks the same for honors and non-honors courses? Also, will MBS offer digital copies of required textbooks?
A: Textbooks for honor and non-honors courses are generally the same. MBS will offer digital options for textbooks. However, not all courses have a digital textbook option.

Q: Will students have to show proof of being vaccinated?
A: Antonian will not require students or faculty and staff to show proof of vaccination. In a statement released by Bishop Boulette, "The use of masks and face coverings is not required for those who are fully vaccinated. We highly encourage those who are not vaccinated to wear masks or face coverings. We will not require proof of vaccination. We also highly encourage all to be vaccinated." Antonian will continue to follow the guidelines set forth by local and state mandates, the CDC, and the direction of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. We are asking families and students to please use the honor system regarding this.

Q: Do we have a date for when schedules will be given?
A: As mentioned in last week's newsletter, schedules for sophomores, juniors, and seniors will be released by July 26, 2021.

Q: Will lockers be used, and if so, when will these be issued?
A: Students will be using lockers for the 2021-2022 school year. Locker assignments will be given on Friday, August 13, 2021, during student prep days. More information is forthcoming.

Q: Will students do pictures and Chromebooks on the same day as last year?
A: Antonian will host a Returning Student Prep Day on Friday, August 13, 2021. The students will have their photos taken and receive their Chromebooks and locker assignments.

Verification of Enrollment Forms (VOE)

On occasion throughout the summer, students need to obtain Verification of Enrollment (VOE) forms in order to pursue driver's licenses. In order to plan for an issuing Administrator to be able to offer this to a student in light of our reduced summer office hours (Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. | Closed on Friday), we have established a request link for students to use. An issuing Administrator will check this link daily (M-F) and will reach out to the student to schedule a time to pick up their form. The form CANNOT be issued electronically, i.e., through email, and the student MUST be present to sign the form.
Hiring Full-Time ASL Teacher

Antonian is hiring a full-time American Sign Language Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Please share the job posting with your friends and family.

Antonian is also looking to add a few additional people to our team:

  • English/Theatre Arts Teacher
  • Head Tennis Coach
  • Dean of Students
  • Groundskeeper
Obsolete Textbook List
No Longer Required
Please note that there are just a few textbooks from 2020-2021 that will not be used during the 2021-2022 school year.

For a list of these books, please click on the following link:
MBS Direct | Now Open

Antonian uses MBS Direct to provide information and purchasing options for textbooks used for Antonian courses. Textbooks via MBS Direct are available online for purchase.

Students are responsible for the purchase of their own textbooks. If a textbook is noted as "required," it is imperative that the student acquire the book and bring it as directed by the teacher.
Buy-Sell-Trade Facebook Group

Last year, we started a buy-sell-trade Facebook group for parents to exchange and sell their used textbooks with other Antonian families. We will be offering this service again. If you would like, click on the below link to request access to the group.

Please note -- sellers are responsible for their payments and trade agreements.
Antonian Used Textbook Store | Now Open
Antonian has launched our used online book store. Books are limited and purchased on a first-come, first-serve basis. Proceeds from this book sale go toward the Campus Ministry program to help assist in the financial costs for student retreats.

Please note that the books listed are donated, and not all books required for students are listed. Students are responsible for obtaining textbooks required for their classes.
