Greetings, Apache families,
As I’ve gotten older, it seems to me that there aren't enough people who care about celebrating the arrival of the New Year. During the first few minutes of 2025, I found myself standing alone in my cul-de-sac on a cold night, listening to the thunderous noise of fireworks surrounding me, for at least a solid two minutes. My family, immediate and extended, were in our home fast asleep. I took a few moments enjoying the sights and sounds around me, paused for some reflection and prayer, and made my way back inside after a while. I’ve found that as I’ve grown older, people don’t care about new year’s eve like I want them to. Not that I think everyone should be out on the streets, but nowadays it seems most of the adults I know are far too content to call it a night well before 12 am.
When I was in my 20’s and 30’s the first few minutes of the new year were spent calling my siblings and my mother, regardless of where they were, what they were doing, and whether they were awake or not. That interruption meant something…it was a brief pause to let someone know I loved them, at a special time we all shared in common. And to me, that we all share it in common, without consideration of any of our differences, this moment marking the time we’ve spent together over the last year and the promise of the next, is a very special thing. We’ve made it together, to a brand new year on the calendar, and come what may, we arrived at this point, together.
As we kick off 2025 at ACP, I remain grateful for the community here and all the promise that lies before us. The newsletter this week will point you to some exciting opportunities to get your 2025 rolling, and I’d invite you to especially consider joining our parent prayer group on Thursday, January 16 at 8:30 am. Additionally, you can have a great time and support all of our work here at Antonian by joining us for our Diamond and Dreams Gala coming up quickly in April. Sponsorship and tickets are now available and your generosity here will help us tremendously in continuing the great work we do at Antonian throughout this calendar year and into the next.
