Season of Advent

Fourth Sunday of Advent - Sunday, December 22

“And in the end, everything else will turn out to be unimportant and inessential, except for this: Father, Child, and Love.” – St. (Pope) John Paul II

The fourth candle of Advent represents Love, the ultimate love of God that He might send His only Son for us. Called the “Angel’s Candle,” the fourth candle of Advent is lit the Sunday before Christmas, and it is the color purple, leading us to eagerly await the new Kingdom of God on earth. This Advent, light the fourth candle on Sunday, December 22, 2024.

Letter from Mr. Duarte

December 20

I absolutely must draw your attention to the PTC Survey located in this week’s newsletter, as I am very excited about the plans they are developing for next semester! Please be sure to share your thoughts and input on these opportunities for fellowship. It should be a wonderful way to connect with other parents in our school.

In five days we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. One of my favorite songs of this season, especially when I’m in a church, is O Holy Night. Although, like everyone, I’ve heard that song many many times over the years, it wasn’t until just a few years ago that the phrase “and the soul felt its worth” truly resonated with me. That’s it! That’s the whole thing. That’s the “reason for the season;” that our Lord came to us, so that we might eventually be worthy of the gift of life we’ve received. That’s why my mom’s car decal reminds America to “Keep Christ in Christmas,” even if that reminder is being shared during Easter, summer, or back to school time. The gift of life we have only matters in the context of our souls fulfilling their worthiness.

But also…It occurred to me recently that that very phrase is actually an extraordinarily succinct rephrasing of the mission of Catholic schools. With you as their parents, we guide and shape our students through four eventful years, in the hopes that by graduation, they can face the world prepared with a soul that knows its own worth.

We are blessed to be reminded of that this time of year (or any time of year, if you’re lucky enough to be driving behind my mom). Please know we appreciate your trust in us and believe this mission is among the most important of our lives.

Wishing you the best through a wonderful Advent, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,

Gabriel Duarte
