Parents,
We take root in "courage" as we embark on our second week of distance learning. It goes without saying our deep commitment and appreciation to our families as we continue to work within our parameters to provide the education for which we are known.
With that, we ask that you continue to remind your student(s) to check their Antonian email accounts, as important information is sent. As mentioned last week, we are currently awaiting the remaining technology shipment for our hybrid learning. We understand that communication is more important than ever; therefore, we also invite you to download our school app.
Finally, last Friday, we celebrated the induction of the freshmen class. We are in for a treat with the Class of 2024. This Friday, we will continue celebrating by honoring our seniors with their traditional Ring Mass and Ceremony. We look forward to our annual "Meet the Teacher" event (more information will be provided).
These events are a reminder that, as we move forward, we do so in hope and love.
Blessings,
Mason Finch
Director of Communications

A Word from the Director of Technology
|
|
Thank you (and your student!) for your patience as we've worked through this week of virtual instruction. Here are a few troubleshooting steps for you and your student to follow with regard to some of the bugs that we've encountered in connecting to Google Meet for instruction:
Step 1: Have your student update the device. The 'Gopher Buddy' extension (black gopher with red triangle) will direct your student how to update the Chromebook to the latest version, if they have not already utilized the notifications asking them to update.
Step 2: Disable any running extensions. The Extensity extension will allow them to disable any non-essential extensions that are potentially hindering the Chromebook's CPU performance.
Step 3: Verify that your home WiFi is up and working by switching to a personal device. If a personal device is giving you a more consistent and better connection, feel free to use it.
Step 4: Reach out to me (knowak@antonian.org) to schedule a time to drop off the Chromebook for me to inspect it.
Happy learning!

Due to the pandemic, activities of these committees have been temporarily suspended to ensure the health and safety of our community. We hope to be able to engage these committees again in the future!

Daily Announcements
Although morning and afternoon announcement periods were built into the schedule for remote learners (and those who are hybrid learners on their "off campus" days), students will not need to connect for these blocks of time. Instead, all daily announcements can be found under "News and Announcements" on the homepage of the Antonian website. If a student is a member of an organization which needs an announcement made, he or she can complete the online announcement form found on the website under "Student Life" or by clicking the following link:

As part of our best practices for physical distancing and minimizing "touch" areas, we have suspended the use of lockers this school year. We understand that this may be an inconvenience to our students, so we will monitor this during the school days next week, when students have returned to campus, and will evaluate alternate solutions.

Monthly Standard Student Highlight: Courage
|
|
|
When spring break ended, senior Arabella Holguin was determined to succeed at distant learning. Within that week, both her parents learned that they had tested positive for COVID-19.
With the news at hand, Arabella focused not only on her studies but in taking care of the responsibilities around her home. Her parents were proud, as she showed courage and faced her fears by leaning on her faith and found strength in prayer. Arabella's mom said, "She is courageous, empathetic, reliable, and responsible."
In addition, to helping her family, she has also helped another student and friend from Central Catholic. Her friend was diagnosed with cancer and supported him by coordinating a "good vibes" parade for him. She enlisted help from her senior cheer friends and made posters wishing him well.
Arabella has proven that when faced with fear, she is brave and shows courage through her faith while also helping others who are in need. We are proud of you, Arabella!

Faculty Spotlight: Blake Fuschak
|
|
Director of Student Activities
Blake Fuschak
|
|
Just as we inducted our newest members of the Antonian family, embarking on their first year at Antonian, we have also welcomed Coach Fuschak into his "freshmen year" as Director of Student Activities.
In a case study, it was surveyed that 79% of America’s students regularly participate in activities both after school and on weekends.
In addition, it stated that “85% of students who participate in such activities believe that organized, structured school activities are enormously important and they feel better off than kids that do not participate."
At Antonian, we have numerous clubs and organizations to fit the needs of our students. Coach Fuschak's commitment to excellence will ensure that our students needs are met and he will bring a fresh perspective on student engagement and management.
He has been a member of our faculty for nine years and in that time, he has through his actions been an example to our students of how to treat others well. We are excited to embrace him in this new position (in addition to coaching) and are thrilled for the new opportunities that await our students.
