Re-Entry Plan 2021-2022 School Year

We are grateful that we are able to bring to a close one of the most unusual school years. We appreciate the flexibility and patience shown by parents, students, faculty, and staff of Antonian. We now continue our work to plan for the start of the 2021-2022 school year and want to share with you preliminary information about our return to very hopefully normal campus operations.

As you have read in previous communications, we follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local health guidelines, and direction from the Archdiocese of San Antonio, given our status as an Archdiocesan high school. Recently, Bishop Mike Boulette, Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of San Antonio, provided a document that informs our plans. As he noted, “It seems time for us to move forward with all faith and vigor for the benefit of God’s people.”

With this, we plan that students will fully return to campus five days a week beginning on our first day of school on August 16, 2021. We will follow a regular bell schedule, and students will be held to our in-person attendance expectations (students who have more than nine (9) absences--both excused and unexcused--per class per semester become at risk for losing credit due to excessive absences).

Additional information that mirrors Archdiocesan guidance includes:

  • The use of masks and face coverings is not required for those who are fully vaccinated. We highly encourage those who are not vaccinated to wear masks or face coverings; however, we will not require proof of vaccination. We also highly encourage all to be vaccinated. Those who wish to continue to wear masks, even if vaccinated, will be permitted to do so.
  • Those who are ill (from any cause/source) are asked to stay home until they are past all symptoms for 24 hours.
  • Social distancing is encouraged when possible; however, it is not required at this time. This means that classroom capacities will return to normal, with a goal of having no more than 27 students in a classroom.
  • We will continue to appropriately sanitize campus facilities as needed. This includes the optional use of cleaning supplies on high-touch surfaces by teachers in classrooms during passing periods.
  • Hand sanitizers will continue to be available at appropriate locations.
  • Printed materials may return for use; however, the positive approach to reduction in paper consumption/copying costs will be an on-going expectation.
  • With respect to campus Liturgies, ordinary and extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist will be encouraged to wear masks during the distribution of Holy Communion and will sanitize their hands before and after the Communion Rite; Holy Communion on the tongue is once again permitted altar servers are encouraged to serve; music ministries will return to normal.
  • With respect to specific protocols for extracurricular activities, including athletic events, more detailed information will be forthcoming later this summer.

Included in this newsletter is a means of providing feedback to share with the Administration any question -- on any topic, not just COVID/pandemic-related questions -- that a parent has during these summer months. Please feel free to use this feedback loop to ask any follow-up questions to this message about our re-entry. We wish you a very peaceful and joy-filled summer!
Verification of Enrollment Forms (VOE)

On occasion throughout the summer, students need to obtain Verification of Enrollment (VOE) forms in order to pursue driver's licenses. In order to plan for an issuing Administrator to be able to offer this to a student in light of our reduced summer office hours (Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. | Closed on Friday), we have established a request link for students to use. An issuing Administrator will check this link daily (M-F) and reach out to the student to schedule a time to pick up their form. The form CANNOT be issued electronically, i.e., through email, and the student MUST be present to sign the form.
