Dear Jessica,

We know many of you are devastated by the racially motivated shooting in a Buffalo supermarket that left 10 people dead. We are, too. Our love and support is with the people of Buffalo who grieve the loss of pillars of their community - parents, grandparents, people known for their kind and selfless acts.

Words can be difficult to come by when Black people are repeatedly targeted, and when BIPOC, Jewish and LGBTIA+ communities also face increasing violence. Answers, which may seem elusive, feel even more challenging when the questions come from our children. Just like us, they are frightened, sad and confused. As educators and parents, we want to help them make sense of the world - and ensure they are part of the solution.

We can start by giving our children tools so that they will not only recognize racism, but disrupt it. In this week's newsletter, we've provided resources to help guide your conversations with children about what they are seeing and experiencing.

We hope that as you find ways to care for your children, and that you also make time to care for yourselves.

We are thinking of you.

Sending you our love, friendship and support,

The All Our Kin Team

Reignite the push for a big new federal investment in child care! Members of Congress are considering a new proposal to increase child care funding by up to $200 billion. Email Senators Blumenthal and Murphy TODAY to tell them to make this proposal a top funding priority.

CT State Budget: The state legislature approved an increase of $183 million for early care and education next year. These funds will support providers across the state, including family child care educators. This is an increase of 56% over last year's funding — a direct result of your actions! Whether they've seen it on the news, witnessed it in person, or experienced it themselves, children are aware of racism. Here are some important resources to help children respond to race and racialized violence:
