Annual General Meeting
March 2nd - 4th, 2022
This is a reminder to protect the dates for our Annual General Meeting that will be held from March 2nd to 4th, 2022 at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa. To book your hotel, please click here. We hope to start the registration process in the next couple of weeks and will have additional information then.

We have some great presenters lined up from the Fairness Commissioner to a doctor dealing with Lifestyle Medicine to an expert in geodetic referencing who will provide a review of our geodetic reference frames and tell us about the changes that are planned. We are arranging our typical social events, and assuming that COVID doesn’t interfere, we look forward to meeting you all in person.

Call for Sponsors and Exhibitors:

Provincial Survey Records Index
(PSRI)
This is a reminder that survey companies must enter a record for their surveys into the PSRI, or an approved provider, within one month of completing the survey or signing a plan of survey.

iLOOKABOUT has recently enhanced the geocoding capability of the PSRI. In addition to automatically geocoding a record to enable it to appear in a spatial search where a PIN, Assessment Roll Number (ARN) and/or civic address is provided that matches MPAC data, the algorithm will be rerun regularly to catch situations where a record is entered in advance of updates being made to the parcel fabric and location data. The system will always search for a match against a valid PIN first, followed by the ARN and then the civic address provided street type and direction, if applicable, is included. Where a user enters an address and PIN which do not correspond to the same location, the system will flag the inconsistency for your correction or, where appropriate, your acceptance. In the near future, the application will commence the use of existing lot and plan data in the system to help improve geocoding as well. System intelligence will be used to geocode records belonging to the same plan where several of the records are geocoded and others are not. These improvements should help surveyors find records more readily when performing spatial searches as well as allowing them to continue to search against the record’s attribution to perform the required research.

We plan to offer two lunch and learns early in the new year that can help you and your staff leverage the enhancements incorporated over the past few months and continue to take advantage of the PSRI.

Reminder:
Continuing Professional Development
Cycle - 2019-2021
Reminder: This is the final 5 weeks of the 3-year cycle for CPD requirements for most surveyors (CPD Cycle 2019-2021). Please be reminded that you require 66 hours of Professional Development and 36 hours of formal education courses in the 3-year cycle. Members practicing less than 100 days per year require an additional 30 hours of Formal Activities or Professional Activities or a combination thereof. Please do not leave it until the last minute to enter your data into GeoEd or meet your professional CPD obligations.

Please log into GeoEd to view or edit your profile, submit and edit CPD activities, and view your CPD cycle report as well as your past CPD submissions by year. The process of CPD entry is similar to the one that our members are used to, with a few minor changes. Should you encounter any issues or "bugs" with GeoEd, please notify Colleen Gambier at [email protected].

Some useful information noted about our CPD Program is noted in GeoEd.
  • Professional Development (CPD Program and Summary)
  • AOLS CPD Activities (Listing of CPD activities offered by the AOLS, with CPD hours and categories indicated)
  • CPD Approved Activities (some examples of approved activities)

Please note that GeoEd is also the site where various online learning opportunities are posted, including the recordings of all of the AOLS webinars.

Introducing eNotifications from
Teraview® and OnLand
Effective November 29, 2021, you will be able to subscribe to receive six different types of email notifications directly from Teraview®.
Effective December 13, 2021, you will be able to receive two types of email notifications directly from OnLand.

Set out in the chart below are the different types of email notifications, all of which are available for free but do require your subscription.
Of particular benefit to land surveyors submitting ePlans will be the email notification that your ePlans has been “Returned for Correction” in Teraview®.
By subscribing to this service, you will receive an email advising you that your ePlan has been Returned for Correction (the details of which can then be retrieved from your Teraview® messaging). There will be no need to constantly monitor your Teraview® messaging to look for plans Returned for Correction. If you deposit even a few plans per year in Teraview®, then you should immediately sign-up for the “Return for Correction” eNotification service.
Please note, however, that you must subscribe in Teraview to get any of these email notifications. Without subscription, we will not have an email address for you (even if we have emailed you before and/or your email address is otherwise readily available).
Please note that Land Registry Office staff will no longer call surveyors to notify that an ePlan was Returned for Correction after December 31, 2021, allowing you some time to subscribe to the eNotification services. The process for hardcopy plans remains unchanged at this time.
For more information on how to access these eNotifications, please visit Teraview.ca.
