National Surveyors' Conference (AOLS AGM) Update
by Blain Martin, Executive Director
|
I have been sending out regular updates about the National Surveyors' Conference and these updates are having a positive impact on registration, hotel room uptake, sponsorship and booth rental. Joining with two other Associations has made planning this year's conference both challenging and exciting. We have taken the traditions of each organization and combined the best of each to come up with an agenda that is truly spectacular and which celebrates our rich history.
There are several examples of this and I want to speak about two of them in this issue of In Sight. The first example is the Veterans' Dinner, an AOLS tradition for over 100 years! This year all AOLS members with the OLS#1725 or earlier or CR111 or earlier are invited. We will be joined by Canada Lands Surveyors and Ordre des arpenteurs-géomètres du Québec members who have had their licenses for 25 years or more. Accompanying persons are welcome to attend.
The second example is the Presidents' Gala. The Québec Association has had great success with this event and the driver of that success seems to be a "particular show" they have each time. We will take a page from Québec and provide those who attend the gala with spectacular food and a British Invasion, which is a musical show that provides music and dancing from the 60s. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
I also want to mention the availability of hotel rooms for our conference. Both the Westin and Novotel are fully booked, but the other hotels mentioned on the conference website have rooms available. Patricia, our event coordinator, has secured a two week extension on those hotels that are holding rooms for us, so if you do not have a room booked already... Please do it NOW!
Registration is progressing nicely and if you have not already registered... Please do that now too.

AOLS February Webinar: "Council Candidates' Presentations"
by Julia Savitch, Program Manager
|
The AOLS 2017 webinar series starts with a February webinar. You might have noticed that we did not have a webinar in January - this was partially due to the holiday break, but mostly because we are so busy here in the office getting ready for the National Surveyors' Conference!
The next AOLS webinar will take place on
Wednesday, February 15, 2017, 12:00-1:00 pm, and will have the 2017 Council Candidates present their platforms and answer your questions.

Attending this webinar qualifies for

"Great Lengths" Book Update
by Blain Martin, Executive Director
|
"Great Lengths" is finished and has been sent to the printer!
The fundraising to support the creation of this book for our 125th year has been incredibly successful and I want to thank all those who contributed to the project. Overall, we raised $208,125.00.
Now I am looking forward to getting the finished copy, and our publisher assures me that it will be ready well in advance of our Conference in the first week of March.
The names of the sponsors that will be listed in the book are now locked down. However, if others would like to contribute, they can still do so and receive the same number of book copies that sponsors at the same level of contribution will (except their
names will not be listed in the list of sponsors in the book).
