Dear Carroll Community,

Included in this correspondence is a document from Sr. Maureen McDermott, Superintendent of Secondary Schools for the archdiocese and Irene Horstmann Hannan, Chief Executive Officer for Faith in the Future Foundation, regarding an update on the status of fall athletics. The letter can be found here

Today it was announced that all 17 Archdiocesan high schools may resume inter-scholastic athletic competition for the fall season. This important decision was reached as a result of a continuous assessment process on the part of the Office of Catholic Education and Faith in the Future. It concluded that sufficient change has occurred within the COVID-19 environment in our region over the past month to sponsor competitive sports safely.

The guiding principle of those responsible for our schools in every decision has been, and remains, the health and safety of our school communities as they endeavor to provide the most holistic educational experience possible, inclusive of athletics and other extra-curricular activities. As virus levels continue to remain in the “moderate” category throughout the five-county region, Archdiocesan high schools can keep building on the success of hybrid model for instructional delivery.

A fully, detailed Athletic Safety Plan will be completed shortly. It will provide the guidance, protocols, and requirements that all schools will implement. The attached news release and letter contain additional information.

Sincerely,
Mr. James Leary, Acting President
