Acalanes Parents,
We hope you had an enjoyable summer and your students are excited for the new school year. We look forward to seeing returning families and meeting new ones on campus at Dons Day tomorrow from 7:30-11:30am. Acalanes Parents Club (APC) will welcome all early risers with a hot cup of coffee and yummy Johnny's donut holes.
Dons Day
provides a great opportunity for families to connect to all things Acalanes. Be sure to take the time to stop by individual class tables (e.g., Class of 2020, 2021, 2222 & 2023) staffed by parent class liaisons and class officers to gather important information about the upcoming school year.
We hope you'll join us for our monthly APC Dons Dialogues! These forums are one of the best ways to find out what's going on at Acalanes. Principal Bell leads the meetings and discusses hot topics and invites different department heads to share what's new. It's also a great way to meet other Dons parents. Our
first APC Dons Dialogue will be held this Friday, August 16
, at 8:45am in the Collaboration Center.

If you have yet to donate, we hope you will consider supporting APC at the $300 per student suggested amount or any other donation amount. APC Dons Dialogue Kick-Off on Friday
Join Principal Bell for the first Dons Dialogue parent forum of the school year this Friday,

Attendance Refresher!
To report absences, late arrival or early dismissal, call the 24-hour Attendance Line in
the morning: (925) 280-3973. (Detailed instructions about what information is needed is on the outgoing message.) Please keep in mind that handwritten notes are not accepted and all absences must be cleared by a parent or guardian within 48 hours. Have a medical/dental appointment? These must be cleared with a stamped appointment note from the provider.
Community Service & Underclassman Awards Pick-up
Was your student awarded a Community Service or Underclassman Award last spring, but forgot to pick it up? All certificates will be in the counseling office during the first week of school.

Welcome back to the Class of 2021! We are looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at the Dons Day class table. Be sure to stop by to purchase your student's class t-shirt and to sign up for volunteer opportunities available throughout the school year. Junior year is a busy one with lots of opportunities for parents to get involved so we encourage everyone to volunteer their time. In the meantime, mark your calendars with these important dates:

Back To School Night. Join the Junior Class meeting after classroom tours! We'll discuss all things Junior and get a brief introduction to the College & Career Counseling department.

Color Run! Encourage your Junior to register for this FUN AND IMPORTANT CLASS FUNDRAISER! Students can register tomorrow at the Junior Table at Dons Day or online at the Acalanes Web Store under Class Supplies here. All proceeds go directly to the Sophomore and Junior classes.

Welcome back to the Class of 2022! We are looking forward to a fun and exciting year!
We hope to see you tomorrow morning at Don's Day and encourage you to stop by the Sophomore Class table so that you can sign up for the various volunteer opportunities throughout the year. As always, we appreciate any and all of your support! We also encourage you and your student to stop by the Color Run table (next to our class table) to sign up for this event as well. A portion of the proceeds will go to our class!
Although the beginning of the school year is always busy, here are a few upcoming activities to make note of in your calendars:

First home football games (scrimmages). JV at 4:30pm and Varsity at 7pm. A portion of the proceeds from concessions will go directly back to our class so please stop by!

Welcome back! Counselors are excited to see students again! Just to refresh your memory: Counselors are assigned by student last name, as follows:
Schedules and Schedule changes Students get their schedule on Dons Day Monday, Aug 12. All students should go to their assigned schedules on the first day of school on Aug 13. Requests for changes can be made starting Wednesday, Aug 14. Keep in mind that changes can only be made if space is available. Even after turning in a request, students must continue to go to their assigned schedule until they have confirmation that the schedule has changed.

Coming Soon: The Acalanes Community Education Speaker Series!
Acalanes Parents Club is excited to offer speakers, film screenings, and workshops for
community members during the academic year. Past topics have included: Risky behaviors; vaping, tobacco, and marijuana awareness; balance for teens; reducing stress;improving decision-making.
We'd love to hear from you! The Parent Ed Team welcomes ideas, recommendations, and learning about your interests.

The LPIE Writing Tutor Program at Acalanes is hiring tutors to provide written feedback on Social Studies and English essays and meet one-on-one with students during the school day. Tutors must be available Tuesday-Friday, 8am-3:05pm, September-May. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in a humanities discipline, and preferably professional writing and/or teaching experience. For more information, please email program coordinator
