Boeing is reportedly in early talks about working on a new commercial aircraft. The United States-based manufacturer has spoken with the likes of plane leasing firms and suppliers about the prospects. However, this plane is not the previously anticipated NMA.
According to the Wall Street Journal via Fox Business, this program will be a single-aisle aircraft with improved engines. Moreover, it could carry between 200 and 250 passengers, according to those familiar with the project. Altogether, this capacity places the plane between the largest 737 MAX narrowbody and the 787 widebody.

SAN DIEGO -- UC San Diego researcher Mario Molina, who shared the 1995 Nobel Prize in chemistry for helping discover that a class of household chemicals known as CFCs was destroying Earth's delicate ozone layer, died. He was 77.
Molina, whose work helped lead to the Montreal Protocol, a landmark treaty aimed at repairing damage to the atmosphere, died in Mexico City, according to the Mario Molina Center, an institute that he operated there. The cause of death was not disclosed.

The guided-missile cruiser Antietam suffered a small fire in an engineering space on Sept. 24, Cmdr. Reann Mommsen, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Seventh Fleet, said. The ship was in the Philippine Sea at the time, she said. "During the response, 13 crew members experienced minor injuries, were treated by the ship's medical team, and returned to duty," Mommsen added. "An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway."

| Glasgow School of Art Sues Fire Equipment Company Over Sprinkler Issue |  9/18/20

Insurers for the Glasgow School of Art (GSA) have begun legal action against Arrest Fire and Security Ltd, which installed fire and security devices in the building before the fire in 2018.
The GSA's listed Mackintosh library building caught fire in 2018 after a previous blaze in 2014. Sprinklers 'had not been fitted' after the first fire, which "almost entirely destroyed" the library in May 2014. A spokesperson for the British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association (BAFSA) stated at first that "it was understood" that automatic sprinklers had not been fully fitted due to the building undergoing refurbishment.

Fire causes heavy damage to Husky gas station and convenience store near downtown Nanaimo
The Husky sas station and convenience store at the intersection of Stewart and Terminal avenues is closed after it suffered extensive fire and water damage from a blaze that broke out overnight.
The fire appeared to have started in a small compound, bordered by a brick wall, at the rear exterior of the building that contains the building's heating and air conditioning units, which suffered heavy fire damage.

THUNDER BAY -- A suspected electrical fire has caused untold damage to the Thunder Bay Courthouse.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was alerted to the fire when a passerby noticed smoke emerging from the building.
That prompted a major response including six pumper trucks, an aerial ladder, and a command vehicle, involving around 26 personnel. Multiple police vehicles and an ambulance were also on scene.

Natural Gas Plant Opens After Fire (India)

Fire in Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's Hazira Gas Processing Plant near Surat has been extinguished. All efforts are being made to resume normal operations in the plant at the earliest.
Earlier in the day, fire was observed around 03:05 hours (IST) due to leakage of gas from a gas pipeline.
On the first signs of gas leak and fire, Emergency Shutdown actuators were immediately activated and the plant was shut down.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which dragged the airline industry to a standstill, led to a 27% drop in sales at Meggitt's civil aerospace business, which counts planemakers Airbus and Boeing as customers.

NewsHOUSTON -- A Texas judge acquitted the U.S. arm of French chemical maker Arkema SA and a top executive of criminal recklessness stemming from a 2017 blaze that injured 21 people, a verdict that ended all charges against its managers. The company's Crosby, Texas, plant became waterlogged and lost power needed to keep organic peroxide chemicals from igniting after Hurricane Harvey dumped more than 50 inches of rain on the area. The untended chemicals caught fire and burned for days, injuring 21 safety workers and forcing residents from their homes.

"Additionally, lithium-ion batteries can spontaneously reignite hours or even days later after a fire event if cells go into thermal runaway, making decommissioning, deconstructing and storing more complicated.
