Fall 2019

Dear Friends and Coworkers in Christ,

Greetings!  I am pleased to share with you some news. The Subcommittee on Asian and Pacific Island Affairs (SCAPA) is convening a group of pastoral leaders from around the country on November 8-9, 2019 at the Maritime Conference Center in Baltimore, MD. Bishop Oscar A. Solis, SCAPA chairman in his letter of invitation to participants says, " the purpose of this gathering is to track the progress of, examine best practices and explore ways to get wider support for the dissemination and implementation of the USCCB statement Encountering Christ in Harmony: A Pastoral Response to Our Asian and Pacific Island Brothers and Sisters. Bishop Solis further states, "since the approval of this document by the U.S. Bishops at the Spring 2018 General Assembly, various dissemination and implementation activities have been undertaken at the national, diocesan and local levels."

As the autumn season starts and transforms foliage into magical hues of gold, red, or orange, and so it is in Baltimore, where over forty leaders will converge for the Gathering including SCAPA bishops and consultants, representatives of the National Asian and Pacific Young Adult (API YA) Advisory Team, some diocese directors for ethnic/cultural ministry, leaders of Asian and Pacific Island national/regional associations, and ethnic ministry advisers to the Subcommittee. The Secretariat of Cultural Diversity will be represented by Mar Mu ñ oz-Visoso, executive director, support staff, and yours truly.

The liturgical season will soon transition from Ordinary Time to Advent. We are reminded that "the mystery of Christ, unfolded through the cycle of the year," and "calls us to live his mystery in our own lives" ( http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/liturgical-year/index.cfm ).

May the Triune God bless you abundantly each day and always.

Sr. Myrna Tordillo, mscs
Assistant Director
