APIC NEws - Virtual Half Day Conference

On December 1st, 2023 APIC NE hosted a half-day webinar. It was a great day for learning and we want to thank everyone that participated.

All the speakers were well received and they have shared their slides with us.

For those that were not able to attend the webinar "in person" we did record the webinar and have added the video to our APIC NE website.

We have also loaded the presenters individual presentations.

Being on the Board:

Being a Program Director (Elect) has been quite the learning curve, but has been so beneficial in growing my Infection Prevention network both within APIC NE and in the profession.

Over the last year, I have had the opportunity to work alongside Carrie Silver (who is the current APIC NE Program Director) in planning the Foxwoods APIC NE Spring Conference (Spring 2023) and in the Virtual Winter Conference we recently held. As I will transition into the official Program Director in January, I have begun work on our APIC NE Fall Conference.

Through this process, I have learned to recruit and engage speakers across a variety of spectrums and topics, plan logistics behind a large event- including A/V needs, food needs, seating arrangements, hotel blocks, working with vendors, etc. At first, I did not think that this is what the role would entail; however, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with what goes into conference planning. It takes a multitude of roles, professionals, and volunteers, among many other things to plan a conference. Despite the amount of work that goes into planning, it is extremely fulfilling, especially in the sense that it allows IPs from across New England to come together, meet each other, and learn about things that they might not have seen, or might not have gotten the chance to think about just yet. In the end of the day, we are working collaboratively to help grow the profession.

Our profession is rapidly expanding, especially when we think about stricter regulatory requirements and competing priorities; however, these conferences can help address some of those challenges, or at the very least, allow the opportunity to see what else is out there.

I ran for this position out of curiosity and out of the need to expand my career, but have transitioned my mindset to that of growth for all Infection Preventionists.

I have been blessed to meet some very intelligent professionals, and hope to continue to do so as I fully transition into Program Director. Looking forward to meeting and sharing ideas at the next APIC NE Conference!

A Special Thank You To All Our Members

It has been a very full year at APIC NE. We have hosted several educational events, both virtual and in person. Many great speakers with a variety of infection prevention topics that are so important to the work that we all do in providing a safe environment for patients, staff, colleagues, and even our families. Our membership has grown this past year, part of this growth is credited to APIC National offering long term care providers in Connecticut with membership to both APIC National and APIC NE for one year. We could not be more proud of all the representation from all the New England States.

The Board of Directors want to say THANK YOU to each and everyone of you for your continued support and we look forward to the new year, new partnerships, and new collaborations that await our chapter.

All the best for a safe and healthy holiday season and Happy New Year.
