Executive Director's Note...
Thanks for your input!
In our last E-news, we asked for your input to help guide us in planning contingencies for the APP's 107th Annual Conference in Nanaimo, Canada. Thanks for so many responses! It was great to see such enthusiasm for the conference, reinforcing our conviction that the conference is an important part of your professional development, relationship-building and marketing plans.
Your insights are helpful as we continue to evaluate the best contingency plan in case COVID-19 restrictions on travel and large gatherings last through the summer. Overwhelmingly, responses were most in favor of keeping the August date. While it's still too early to know for sure, this is our Number One choice as well. Your feedback has also prompted us to research virtual (and hybrid-virtual) conferences.
The Conference Committee and the APP Executive have agreed to wait until the end of April/early May before making a decision. In the meantime, it's full steam ahead! Better to be prepared for any scenario than none at all and we appreciate your support as we manage these uncertain times. It should be noted that sponsorships and registration fees are fully refundable should the conference not go ahead as planned.
As always, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts. Call or email anytime.
Best regards,
Jane McIvor

Port Alberni Port Authority issues Request for Nominations
In accordance with Section 14(1)(d of the Canada Marine Act (CMA) and the Letters Patent of the Port Alberni Port Authority, a Nominating Committee to recruit and recommend candidates to the Board of Directors has been formed.
The Port Alberni Port Authority has two vacancies for the user group category for which nominations are being accepted. Section 16 of the CMA provides details of those individuals who may not be directors of a Port Authority. In particular, section 16(e) of CMA precludes an individual who is a director, officer or employee of a person who is a user of the port. The Director appointment approach supports an open, transparent, and merit-based selection process that will result in the recommendation of highquality candidates who achieve gender parity and truly reflect Canada’s diversity.
Nominations will be received until 4:00 p.m., April 29th, 2020.
Please email your request for nomination forms, criteria for eligibility, and copies of the pertinent sections for the Canada Marine Act to

Port of San Diego approves Sweetwater Park Coastal Development Permit
April 14, 2020
-- As part of the transformation of the Chula Vista waterfront on San Diego Bay, the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners has approved a Coastal Development Permit (CDP) for the future Sweetwater Park. Planned for the northern portion of the Chula Vista waterfront near E Street and Bay Boulevard, Sweetwater Park is envisioned as a meadow-type open space to showcase the unique natural assets of San Diego Bay, encouraging passive recreation to complement the adjacent Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge.
Proposed features include:
- Meadows and specialty gardens
- Mounded grasslands
- Nature playground
- Picnic area
- Various pedestrian and bicycle paths – some with paved and others with softer surfaces
- Sand dunes
- Multiple overlooks for bayfront viewing
“The parks that are being designed and planned, including Sweetwater Park, will give us the long-awaited, enhanced shoreline recreation and active commercial harbor we’ve wanted for quite some time in the South Bay,” said Chair Ann Moore, Chula Vista’s representative on the Board of Port Commissioners. “Sweetwater Park, specifically, will allow us to appreciate nature on our bayfront, while also protecting the wildlife habitat, species, and our precious coastal resources.”

ADELTE Group keeping busy
April 14, 2020
-- Despite challenges during the current pandemic,
ADELTE Group
has been keeping pace with projects around the world…
During the Easter holidays the ship
MV Keith
arrived at
Canaveral Port Authority
, the world’s second-busiest cruise port. ADELTE’s team, with local support, successfully unloaded and installed two HYDRA boarding bridges at the new Cruise Terminal 3. In November, Cruise Terminal 3 will be home for
Carnival Cruise Line
’s Mardi Gras, the largest ship in the Carnival fleet and the first North American-based cruise ship to be powered by natural gas.
Last week, the ADELTE team finalized the assembly of two SEDNA boarding bridges at Port Miami. The special transport ship
BBC Song
sailed away from the port and now the cruise ship Norwegian Encore is docked in front of the new Cruise Terminal B (
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.
).
And during the week of first week of April, ADELTE completed the structural assemble of three PBBs for client
Swedavia AB
at Göteborg Landvetter Airport. This work was carried out perfectly with the support of
Anton Air Support
. Now that our Dutch partners have returned home, a small ADELTE team is still finalizing mechanical works so that they also can return home shortly.
