The Venue
Nanaimo is a vibrant urban centre found on the east side of beautiful Vancouver Island where an abundance of recreation and cultural opportunities give residents a lifestyle second to none for living, working and playing. APP Conference attendees will be delighted by an agenda that highlights Nanaimo's working harbour against a backdrop of natural beauty.
All conference sessions, including meals, will be taking place at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre — a very short walk from either the Coast Hotel Nanaimo (about two blocks) or the Courtyard by Marriott Nanaimo (across the street). We have secured premium group rates for both -- averaging $230 CAD per night.

Nanaimo’s Duke Point Terminal Expansion Groundbreaking Ceremony marks strengthening of Canada’s global supply chain
April 4, 2025 — With support from Snuneymuxw First Nation, Port of Nanaimo, and terminal operator DP World, the Duke Point Terminal officially launched construction of the Phase 2/3 expansion today. This project aims to significantly enhance Vancouver Island’s connectivity and trade resilience with Vancouver and global markets. Representatives from the Snuneymuxw First Nation, Port of Nanaimo, and DP World marked the occasion with a ceremonial land blessing and groundbreaking event.

Port of San Diego and Chula Vista open Sweetwater Park
April 2, 2025 — The Port of San Diego and the City of Chula Vista along with project partners and community members today celebrated the opening of Sweetwater Park on the Chula Vista Bayfront. It’s the Port’s 23rd park and the first new park completed as part of the Chula Vista Bayfront redevelopment project. With 39 acres of new public recreational space, it is now the Port’s largest park. Its unique features encourage passive and natural habitat-oriented recreational activities to complement the adjacent Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge.

Port of Long Beach unveils 10-year capital improvement program
March 31, 2025 — Over the next decade, the Port of Long Beach plans to invest more than $3.2 billion in capital projects that drive efficiency and make cargo operations more sustainable. The 10-year program calls for improvements to rail, terminals, roadways, waterways, and safety and security. Also included are infrastructure projects that support the use of zero-emissions equipment. More than $1.28 billion, about 40% of the total, is expected to go toward the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility. The facility is the centerpiece of all the improvements the Port has made to its rail network to date, and its goods movement and environmental benefits will reach across the San Pedro Bay ports complex and beyond. Construction began in 2024 and is due to be completed in 2032.

Port of Grays Harbor welcomes Brian Fry as Marine Terminal Superintendent
March 27, 2025 — The Port of Grays Harbor is pleased to announce Brian Fry will be joining the Port as a new Marine Terminal Superintendent. Mr. Fry brings more than a decade of stevedoring operations and marine terminal management, as well as a 15-year military background in both the Navy and Army National Guard. “We are excited to have Brian join the Port team with his extensive experience and knowledge of the Port and our marine terminal operations,” shared Executive Director Leonard Barnes. “We are confident he will hit the ground running and be an excellent addition to our team as we embark on an era of unprecedented growth.”

Port Authority of Guam unveils 50th Anniversary logo: A symbol of legacy, progress, and unity
March 26, 2025 — The Port Authority of Guam proudly unveils its official 50th Anniversary logo, marking the beginning of a yearlong celebration of five decades of service to the island and region. The new commemorative logo is the result of a spirited employee-driven campaign that reflects the Port’s commitment to honoring its history while embracing its future. In the true spirit of unity and collaboration, the Marketing Division facilitated a logo selection process that engaged the Port’s entire workforce. A majority of employees, including our board members, responded to the internal survey—a remarkable show of participation and pride in the agency’s milestone. With three design options to choose from, the final winning logo emerged ahead by just two votes, showcasing the diversity of opinion and the collective care put into this momentous decision.
