The APP is excited to announce that our 111th Annual Conference will be held in Nanaimo, British Columbia Canada from August 10 to 13, 2025.
Nanaimo is a vibrant urban centre found on the east side of beautiful Vancouver Island where an abundance of recreation and cultural opportunities give residents a lifestyle second to none for living, working and playing. APP Conference attendees will be delighted by an agenda that highlights Nanaimo's working harbour against a backdrop of natural beauty.

Port of Long Beach sees strong start for 2025
February 13, 2025 — The Port of Long Beach started the new year with its strongest January on record and its second-busiest month ever, largely driven by retailers moving cargo ahead of the anticipated tariffs on goods from China, Mexico and Canada.
Dockworkers and terminal operators moved 952,733 twenty-foot equivalent units in January, up 41.4% from the same month last year and surpassing the previous record, set in January 2022, by 18.9%. Imports jumped 45% to 471,649 TEUs and exports rose 14% to 98,655 TEUs. Empty containers moving through the Port climbed 45.9% to 382,430 TEUs.

Port of Grays Harbor celebrates results and records with customers, business leaders and community at 10th Annual Business Report
February 13, 2025 — With more than one hundred Port customers, elected officials, tribal and business leaders, and community members in attendance, the Port of Grays Harbor proudly shared the results of 2024, and showcased the stories of four Port-based businesses at their 10th Annual Business Report on Wednesday morning. Port of Everett announces office pre-leasing at Waterfront Place
February 5, 2025 — Port of Everett and private development partner, Lincoln Property Company (Lincoln), are excited to launch pre-leasing for up to 120,000 sq. ft. of commercial office space in the new Millwright District at Waterfront Place. Located at the heart of the Port of Everett’s $1-billion Waterfront Place mixed-use development in the City of Everett, the 10-acre Millwright District offers a unique waterfront setting at the largest public marina on the West Coast.

Port Alberni Port Authority announces appointment of Ken Mcrae to Board
February 5, 2025 — The Port Alberni Port Authority (PAPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ken Mcrae to its Board of Directors effective Jan 23, 2025, two-year term. Mr. Mcrae was appointed by the Provincial Government. He is well-known locally as the former elected mayor of Port Alberni from 2001 – 2011, and has previously served on our board. Since then, he’s served as a Director on the board for the Island Corridor Foundation, Upnit Power Corporation and Island Coastal Economic Trust (ICE-T).

Bringing the world to Taiwan – foreign cruise passenger arrivals and departures at Port of Keelung set all-time record in 2024
January 17, 2025 — Recently published Port of Keelung statistics confirm robust growth in the port’s international cruise sector in 2024, with 166 cruise ship visits and 787 thousand passengers handled. Although passenger levels are still only 83% of the pre-pandemic peak, the 266 thousand foreign passengers handled this year represents an all-time record, surpassing the previous record of 257 thousand recorded set in 2018. The main countries of origin of foreign passengers processed through Port of Keelung in 2024, include Japan (13.75%), the United States (4.9%), South Korea (2.9%), and Germany (2.8%). Japanese passenger numbers were up 67.4% from the foreign cruise passenger peak in 2018...

Revised rules enhance control measures and improve service efficiencies in Port of Kaohsiung anchorage areas
January 17, 2025 — Revisions to the Regulations Governing the Anchorage of Vessels in Kaohsiung International Commercial Port, announced in 2024, and the January 1st (2025) implementation of a new Anchorage Fee Schedule have both been made to improve and strengthen the management of vessels anchoring in designated anchorage areas within the Port of Kaohsiung. The rules now more comprehensively address the fees associated with special circumstances such as multiple anchorages, rules violations, dishonest reporting, and vessels with seaworthiness concerns during anchorage period as well as enact measures to further enhance related safety and efficiencies within Port of Kaohsiung’s designated anchorage areas.

Jess Ramirez sworn in as President of Oxnard Harbor District
January 17, 2025 — At a ceremony held at the Port of Hueneme, Jess J. Ramirez was sworn in as president of the Oxnard Harbor District. Ventura County Supervisor Vianey Lopez administered the oath of office. Ramirez, a long-serving member of the International Longshoreman’s and Warehouse Union Local #46, has dedicated over 51 years to the port, starting as a casual longshoreman and rising through the ranks to a respected leader. Ramirez was sworn in alongside Commissioner Celina L. Zacarias who just completed a successful year at the helm as board president. The presidential baton for 2025 has now been passed to Ramirez.
