APP welcomes FortisBC as newest Associate Member
The Association of Pacific Ports is pleased to welcome FortisBC as its newest Associate Member. In joining the Association, FortisBC director of low carbon transportation and LNG business growth Sarah Smith sees a great opportunity in being able to share their experiences in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry as well as engage with members to identify their needs, especially in the training and handling of LNG.
“We’re looking forward to working with marine vessel operators in the Port of Vancouver, across North America and internationally to safely advance the use of LNG in marine applications,” said Smith. “We have an opportunity to develop BC as an LNG bunkering hub, presenting a great economic opportunity for the province, and capturing the environmental benefits of lowering greenhouse gas (GHG) and air contaminant emissions associated with marine transportation.”

The Association of Pacific Ports is very pleased to invite you to our virtual AGM - July 29, 2021. In addition to regular Association business, members will provide updates on activities and operations. We are also pleased to present the following presentation prior to the start of the AGM:
Port and Regional Trade Competitiveness in an Emerging Post COVID World
Shifting economic conditions, customer expectations, the emergence of new technologies and environmental regulations are constant pressures facing ports and their customers. Moreover, confronting logistics and transportation challenges is required for increased port and regional trade competitiveness. During this time of heightened uncertainty and renewed optimism, the Association of Pacific Ports has invited a panel of industry experts to facilitate a guided discussion that offers insights into navigating the currents in a rapidly changing post COVID world.
The session will provide an overview of West Coast maritime cargo trends before highlighting challenges and opportunities for major ports and competing gateways as well as regionally significant ports.
Featuring:
Ms. Hanh D. Le-Griffin (Ph.D.), Director, Ports and Marine Terminals for Hatch Engineering and is also an Adjunct Associate Professor Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering University of Southern California.
Philip Davies (MA), Principal, Davies Transportation Consulting Inc. with over thirty-five years of experience in market research, freight planning, and intercity passenger transportation.
The session will be moderated by Darryl Anderson (MBA), a transportation and maritime logistics executive with expertise in international business development, cross-functional team leadership, and competitive market positioning.

City reappoints Director to the Port of Nanaimo Board
July 16, 2021 — The City of Nanaimo has reappointed Dr. Michelle Corfield as the municipal representative on the Board of the Port of Nanaimo for a three year term.
To date, Past Chair Michelle Corfield has served six years on the Port of Nanaimo Board of Directors holding various positions and is currently the Chair of the Human Resources and Compensation Committee. During this time Michelle has demonstrated her community leadership skills acting as an integral part of the team responsible for bringing Federal funding to the community including $6.3 million to develop the Vehicle Processing Centre at the Nanaimo Assembly Wharves and $46.2 million for the Duke Point Terminal expansion from the National Trade Corridors Fund. She also participated in the renewal of the Port’s protocol agreements with the Snuneymuxw First Nation, the City of Nanaimo and the Regional District of Nanaimo.

Port of San Diego announces promotions within executive leadership group
July 15, 2021 — The Port of San Diego announces three promotions within its Executive Leadership Group focused on improving and evolving the Port’s approach and execution of its many responsibilities on and around San Diego Bay – maritime, tourism, water and land recreation, environmental stewardship, and public safety.
The Port congratulates: Job Nelson, Vice President of Strategy and Policy; Tracey Sandberg, Chief Technology Officer; and Cid Tesoro, Vice President of Facilities and Engineering.

Port Alberni Port Authority welcomes new City Board Director
July 14, 2021 — The Port Alberni Port Authority (PAPA) is pleased to welcome Dr. Arne Elias to its Board of Directors. Dr. Elias was selected by the City of Port Alberni as its board representative following the recent expiration of Ken McRae’s term.
Dr. Elias is well-known locally as the Vice Chair of the Air Quality Society and President of the Marine Rescue Society. Furthermore, he has an impressive background in the marine, transportation and resource management sectors with a PhD and an MBA from the University of British Columbia.

HDR’s building engineering services expands into Canada
July 14, 2021 — HDR has formed a dedicated, multi-disciplinary building engineering services practice in Canada to expand the long-standing architecture and engineering portfolio for Canadian clients. The move follows the July 2019 acquisition of Hurley Palmer Flatt Group, a U.K.-based independent engineering consultancy providing solutions for the built environment.

Redwood City Ferry Terminal funding secured
July 13, 2021 — California Governor Newsom signed SB 129 which includes $5 million for the construction of the proposed Redwood City Ferry Terminal. Thank you to Assemblymember Kevin Mullin for the project support.
The City of Redwood City has been planning for a WETA (Water Emergency Transportation Authority) ferry terminal for close to twenty years. In 2016 WETA, made plans to add 11 terminals and 8 routes by the year 2035 including a potential terminal in Redwood City. The City completed a comprehensive Ferry Financial Feasibility Study & Cost-Benefit and Economic Impact Analyses feasibility in October 2020.

Port of Alaska recruiting for Port Engineering Manager
July 13, 2021 — The Port of Alaska (Municipality of Anchorage) has announced an opening for the position of Port Engineering Manager (Civil Engineer III). The position is open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

Trans Mountain releases inaugural Environmental, Social & Governance Report
July 12, 2021 — Trans Mountain Corporation has released its inaugural Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report. The report communicates the environmental, social and governance initiatives and key metrics that demonstrate progress to date and the company’s commitment to continual improvement.
In 2020, Trans Mountain aligned to the sense of urgency related to emission reductions and climate action. In the report, the company outlines its support for the Government of Canada’s ambition to be net zero by 2050 and will set its own targets to reduce and/or offset its scope 1 and scope 2 emissions to meet this goal.

Damen & Conrad Shipyard enter license agreement to build first US multi cats for Great Lakes Dredge & Dock
July 8, 2021 — Damen Shipyards Group has concluded a licence agreement with US-based Conrad Industries. The agreement will see the Conrad Shipyard LLC construct two Damen Multi Cats 3013 for Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation.
The two vessels covered by this agreement will be the first Damen Multi Cats to be built in the USA. Fully compliant with the US Coast Guard and US Army Corps of Engineers stability criteria, the versatile Multi Cat is the ideal platform for dredging support operations.
