New website launched for APP's 2021 Annual Conference and opens registration
The APP has launched a dedicated website for the Annual Conference -- October 24 to 27, 2021 at San Diego's InterContinental Hotel. WWW.PACIFICCONFERENCE.COM provides detailed information on the agenda, speaker bios, sponsor profiles and registration information. As we move forward in confirming sessions, excursions and other networking opportunities, the site will act as a central hub for all the information you'll need to get the most out of your attendance.

Port of Skagit Executive Director Patsy Martin retiring
June 14, 2021 — After nearly three decades at the Port of Skagit, including 14 years at the helm, Executive Director Patsy Martin will be retiring at the end of September. She will leave behind a legacy of effective leadership, community engagement, job growth and advocacy for port authorities at the local, state, national and international levels.

Evergreen and Kaohsiung Port pilot IoT solutions
June 18, 2021 — Evergreen Marine Corporation is piloting the usage of Internet of Things (IoT) technology with Kaohsiung Port’s customs officials. Both sides are aiming to see how IoT technology can ensure the safety of moving cargoes and monitor the entire process of point-to-point container movements in Taiwan’s busiest container port.

Port of San Diego, City of Chula Vista approve critical documents for Chula Vista Bayfront Convention Center and more
June 16, 2021 — The Port of San Diego and City of Chula Vista have taken the next major step toward breaking ground on the Gaylord Pacific resort, the adjacent convention center, associated public infrastructure, and two parks on the Chula Vista Bayfront. On June 15, 2021, the Board of Port Commissioners and City of Chula Vista City Council approved the following critical leasing, financing, and construction documents:

Port Authority of Guam awarded grant from U.S. EDA
June 16, 2021 — The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.4 million grant to the Port Authority of Guam (PAG) to make disaster-resilient infrastructure improvements needed to ensure continuity of operations. The U.S. Department of Commerce EDA grant will be matched with $603,272 in Port investment and is expected to create or retain nearly 50 jobs.

Best practices: Trans Mountain incorporates Indigenous perspectives into construction oversight
June 16, 2021 — Highlighting best practices for their Expansion Project, Trans Mountain has an active group of Indigenous Monitors working on the ground during construction across the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. Trans Mountain’s Indigenous Monitor Program was developed as a result of extensive Indigenous engagement that began in 2012 as part of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project and the ongoing relationships established with many Indigenous groups along the pipeline corridor.

Star Alliance, NEC & SITA Sign teaming agreement, paving the way to expand touchless journeys across member airlines
June 15, 2021 – Frequent flyer program customers of Star Alliance member airlines will soon be able to use their biometric identity across any participating airline at any participating airport following a new agreement between the world’s largest airline alliance, NEC Corporation and SITA. The agreement announced today is aimed at accelerating the availability of biometric self-service touchpoints across Star Alliance’s member airlines while delivering a faster, touchless airport experience.

Liebherr LHM 800 takes Veemnatie to new heights
June 15, 2021 — Veemnatie NV is launching a new dry bulk terminal in the Port of Antwerp. Veemnatie NV, a joint venture between 5de Havendok NV and Steinweg Belgium, has converted its terminal in the Port of Antwerp into a new dry bulk terminal. The current capacity is 300,000 MT and this will be expanded in the future. The long-term partnerships ensure new dry bulk cargo for the Port of Antwerp, which is the second largest in the heart of Europe.

Albion Marine is collaborating with the South Asian community to preserve the Sea Lion Tugboat (Historical Artifact)
June 11,2021 -- Albion Marine is working with the South Asian community to preserve the historical artifact Sea Lion Tugboat, the oldest Tugboat in British Columbia, built-in 1905. Sea Lion Tugboat is one-of-a-kind, with a long history, was hired to escort the Komagata Maru out of Burrard Inlet, sending 376 East Indian Migrants back to an uncertain future. It is a historical artifact for the South Asian community across Canada, specifically in British Columbia, demonstrating the valuable contributions of South Asian Canadians in British Columbia to Canada’s economics, history, and culture.

Port of Stockton improves cargo handling capabilities through purchase of two cranes
June 14, 2021 — The Port of Stockton has greatly improved operational efficiency and expanded its cargo handling capabilities by investing in new equipment. The Port purchased two Liebherr 550 Mobile Harbor Cranes offering a combined lift capacity of 288 metric tonnes. The addition of the two cranes make it possible for vessels to carry heavier cargo than their own cranes can safely handle.

Port of Columbia County property tax levy set to zero for 2021
June 10, 2021 – Port of Columbia County Commissioners voted unanimously on Wednesday to adopt the proposed 2021-2022 fiscal year budget and to set the Port’s annual property tax levy to a rate of zero for residents and industry within the Port district for 2021-2022. “For the second year in a row, staff recommended, and the Budget Committee and Commission agreed, that with the economic hardships experienced by many this year due to the pandemic, it was the right decision to let that tax money stay with residents and businesses,” said Port Executive Director Doug Hayes.

Port of Redwood City joins Green Marine
June 10, 2021 – The Port of Redwood City, the only deep-water port in the South San Francisco Bay, is the newest Green Marine participant to take part in the largest voluntary environmental certification program for North America’s maritime industry. “Serving the Silicon Valley region, the Port of Redwood City is always seeking to advance our global economic vitality while ensuring the most sustainable operations,” said Kristine A. Zortman, the port’s executive director. “Taking part in Green Marine’s rigorous and transparent environmental program is a natural progression of our vision and ambitions.”

Port of Long Beach forges pact with Utah Inland Port Authority
June 8, 2021 — The Port of Long Beach and the Utah Inland Port Authority have agreed to collaborate in the development of cleaner, more cost-effective and innovative strategies aimed at moving goods quickly, safely and efficiently between Long Beach and Utah. The four-year, nonbinding pact is aimed at improving import and export cargo flows between the nation’s second-busiest seaport and Utah’s logistics network.
