SEEN Safety: High-Visibility PPE is the bare minimum—but what if it could do so much more?
June 18, 2025 — Walk into just about any worksite, warehouse, or industrial environment where people are working near mobile equipment, and you’ll likely see workers wearing high-visibility PPE. There’s a good reason for that: it makes people more visible. And the more visible they are, the less likely they are to be struck by a vehicle. But as SafeWork NSW, Australia notes: “PPE can be useful, but it is also one of the least effective ways of controlling safety problems. It works best when used with other control measures.”

Port of Long Beach sees cargo decline for May
June 17, 2025 — Trade moving through the Port of Long Beach declined 8.2% in May due to tariffs and retaliatory tariffs, but a temporary pause on those fees will likely trigger a cargo surge by late June. Dockworkers and terminal operators processed 639,160 twenty-foot equivalent units in May, down 8.2% from the same month last year. Imports dropped 13.4% to 299,116 TEUs and exports decreased 18.6% to 82,149 TEUs. Empty containers moving through the Port rose 3.2% to 257,895 TEUs.

Kongsberg Discovery announces acquisition of Sonatech
June 17, 2025 — The global technology leader Kongsberg Discovery announces on June 17 the signing of an agreement to acquire Sonatech, a prominent expert in the field of underwater acoustics. This strategic move will support Kongsberg Discovery’s growth ambitions and enhance access to the U.S. Navy for the company’s product portfolio. The acquisition is expected to close later in 2025, subject to the necessary governmental approvals.

Port of Everett celebrates opening of new marina fuel dock
June 17, 2025 — On Thursday, June 12, the Port of Everett hosted a dedication ceremony to celebrate the opening of its new fuel dock at the Port of Everett Marina. The event marked the completion of a $8.1 million marina capital investment to better serve the needs of the region’s boating community and national defense. Port of Everett staff, project partners and community members gathered to celebrate the new fuel dock with brief remarks from Port of Everett officials and Naval Station Everett Captain Stacy Wuthier, followed by self-guided tours of the new facility and complimentary root beer floats. More than 125 people came to check out the new facility.

Port Alberni Port Authority appoints co-CEO leadership model to strengthen succession and growth
June 13, 2025 — The Port Alberni Port Authority (PAPA) is proud to announce a significant step in its leadership evolution with the appointment of a Co-CEO structure, effective July 1, 2025. This move reflects the organization’s focus on long-term succession planning, leadership continuity, and future growth of the Port. Current President and CEO Zoran Knezevic will be joined in executive leadership by Mike Carter, PAPA’s Vice President of Operations, who will assume the position of Co-CEO. “I am privileged to have been given this opportunity,” says Mike Carter, “I’m excited to build on previous successes and look forward to helping the Port realize its full potential.”

Port Authority of Guam welcomes MARAD officials
June 13, 2025 — The Port Authority of Guam welcomed two officials from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) on June 13, 2025 for discussions centered on ongoing federal partnerships and key infrastructure initiatives. Peter Simons, Acting Director of the Office of Port Infrastructure Development at MARAD Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and Gus Hein, Gateway Director for the Mid-Pacific Region, met with Port officials to discuss the planned acquisition of ship-to-shore gantry cranes and the latest developments on the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant Program.

Final design process underway for Port of San Diego’s Harbor Park improvements
June 11, 2025 — The Port of San Diego is entering the final step of design for the first phase of improvements for Harbor Park, currently known as Bayside Park, on the Chula Vista Bayfront. Construction on the first phase, referred to as the Upland Improvements project, is anticipated to begin in the fall, with completion scheduled for summer 2026. The existing Bayside Park is being expanded to what will become Harbor Park. It will include the approximately 12 existing acres of Bayside Park as well as nearly 13 additional acres of new park space created as part of the Gaylord Resort & Convention Center project, creating an approximately 25-acre park for the public and bayfront visitors.
