ONE OCEAN / SHARED VISION
We're moving fast on organizing the APP's 111th Annual Conference -- Nanaimo, British Columbia Canada from August 10 to 13, 2025. With a theme of "One Ocean / Shared Vision", the APP is developing an agenda that will bring together port representatives from around the Pacific Ocean to share best practices, learn from each other, and most importantly, build and maintain relationships that transcend geopolitics.

Joint Presentation -- The Shipping Sector Leaders from two of the leading marine-policy advocacy organizations on the West Coast of North America join together to highlight commonalities, differences, issues and opportunities for the interface between port, marine terminals and shippers.
Bonnie Gee, President, Chamber of Shipping -- appointed to the role in March 2023 after serving as the Vice President since 2008, Gee's experience and strengths are multi-faceted and include membership engagement, government relations, communications and marketing, and project management. She currently sits on several external national and regional Boards and committees and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia, with a major in Transportation and Logistics.
Mike Jacob, President, Pacific Merchant Shipping Association -- Jacob assumed the role of President in April 2024 after serving as Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. He joined the PMSA in 2005. Mike holds a JD from the University of California, San Francisco College of Law (Hastings) and a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley. He is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, California Lawyers Association, State Bar of California, and the United States Supreme Court Bar.

The Venue
Nanaimo is a vibrant urban centre found on the east side of beautiful Vancouver Island where an abundance of recreation and cultural opportunities give residents a lifestyle second to none for living, working and playing. APP Conference attendees will be delighted by an agenda that highlights Nanaimo's working harbour against a backdrop of natural beauty.
All conference sessions, including meals, will be taking place at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre — a very short walk from either the Coast Hotel Nanaimo (about two blocks) or the Courtyard by Marriott Nanaimo (across the street). We have secured premium group rates for both -- averaging $230 CAD per night.

Pacific Coast Congress of Harbormasters and Port Managers 2025 spring conference
Save the date! The Pacific Coast Congress of Harbormasters and Port Managers has set April 14 to 16, 2025 as the date for the next PCC Conference. The event will take place in Port Townsend, Washington, a town best known for its rich maritime culture and heritage.

Port Authority of Guam welcomes its first cruise ship of 2025
February 23, 2025 –The Port Authority of Guam proudly welcomed the first cruise ship of the year as the MS Asuka II arrived at the Port this morning at 6:34 a.m. Carrying approximately 642 passengers and 511 crew members, the vessel marks the beginning of what is anticipated to be an exciting year for tourism and maritime activity on the island.

Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal marks new milestone with dual maiden visits
February 27, 2025 — Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal today (January 21st) welcomed a Historic Dual Maiden Call . For the first time, the terminal hosted two maiden calls on the same day, welcoming the Seabourn Encore and Norwegian Sky. Port of Kaohsiung welcomed both ships with a ceremonial water salute and presented their captains with plaques commemorating their ships’ maiden calls to the port and the port’s warm welcome.

UBC Okanagan and FortisBC collaborating on made-in-B.C. hydrogen research
February 27, 2025 — The University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) recently powered up a new hydrogen research lab (H2LAB)—one of the most advanced of its kind in North America. FortisBC Energy Inc. (FortisBC) is supporting the project, helping the university drive innovation and hydrogen energy research. FortisBC hopes to understand how hydrogen can be blended into its gas supply, allowing this renewable and low-carbon gas1 to play a role in meeting the energy needs of homes and businesses while supporting B.C.’s climate action plan.

Port of Hueneme and NYK Line sign historic MPU to launch Green Automotive Shipping Corridor
February 26, 2025 — In a monumental step toward sustainability and environmental stewardship, the Port of Hueneme and NYK Line have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a Green Automotive Shipping Corridor between Japan and Southern California. The signing ceremony took place on February 12, 2025, at the Port of Hueneme, marking the continuation of an exciting collaboration aimed at driving both innovation and environmental progress.

Port of Newport brainstorms with seafood processors
February 26, 2025 — Turbulent times for Oregon’s seafood industry was the primary topic at the Port of Newport Commission meeting on Tuesday. At the heart of that turbulence wasn’t stormy seas but a new wastewater permitting process instituted by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Amy Wentworth, Pacific Seafood’s Director of Environment, Health, and Safety, addressed the Port Commission and explained how the new requirements, which are more demanding than those at the federal level or any other state, are impacting processors.

Kingdom of Tonga welcomes MS Queen Anne in historic visit
February 19, 2025 — We are pleased to announce the historic arrival of the MS Queen Anne in the Kingdom of Tonga at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, 19 February 2025. The cruise ship docked alongside Vuna Wharf in Nuku’alofa, carrying a total of 3,811 individuals on board. The MS Queen Anne is currently undertaking a 112-day round-trip Maiden World Voyage, themed “Easter.”
