Agenda filling up fast!
We're well underway with planning for the APP's 2026 Winter Conference. Presentations will cover topics such as Ports and PFAS (Forever Chemicals); Port Security; Cybersecurity; Port of Hueneme's Sustainability, Prosperity, Education, Equity-Driven (S.P.E.E.D.) Program; Offshore Wind; Sustainable Remediation; Military Initiatives in the Pacific; and, of course, our ever-popular Port Update and Associate Member Update sessions.
Golf location confirmed!
Attendees will love this year's choice of golf venue -- the Hoakalei Country Club. Designed by “The Big Easy” Ernie Els, Hoakalei challenges the most skilled golfer while also catering to recreational players. Mr. Els designed this course to suit every golfer, whether amateur or professional. With beautiful water features and strategically placed bunkers, the hole layout has been configured in conjunction with the trade winds, which means Hoakalei is the type of course that could play different from day to day.

Port of Newport tightens up insurance requirements to ward off abandoned vessels
October 31, 2025 — Port of Newport officials introduced a new tool in their quest to ward off abandoned vessels when they introduced more rigorous insurance requirements at Tuesday’s Port Commission meeting. Director of Operations Aaron Bretz introduced the first reading of an ordinance change that would modify insurance practices outlined in the facilities code.

Port of Everett seeks development partner for Waterfront Place Gateway Project
October 31, 2025 — The Port of Everett has issued a Request for Statement of Qualifications, launching its search for a quality development partner to bring the gateway parcels of its billion-dollar mixed-use development, Waterfront Place, to life. Located at the front door of Waterfront Place, at the largest public marina on the West Coast, this development opportunity offers a prominent spot at the corner of West Marine View Drive and 13th Street, with direct frontage along State Route 529, immediate access to regional transit, connectivity to waterfront and regional trail systems, and built in local and visitor traffic.

Puerto Lázaro Cárdenas hosts delegation to strengthen Mexico-Japan relationship
October 30, 2025 — The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas hosted a visit from a delegation of more than 30 members of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mexico, a meeting that took place as part of the promotional strategies promoted by the Lázaro Cárdenas Port Promotion Subcommittee. The visit aimed to strengthen trade and cooperation ties between the two countries, as well as to showcase the operational, logistical and infrastructure capabilities that the port offers for international trade.

FortisBC receives approval from the BCUC for the Tilbury LNG Storage Expansion project
October 28, 2025 — FortisBC Energy Inc. (FortisBC) has received approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) for its proposed Tilbury LNG Storage Expansion project. This approval will help FortisBC continue to provide reliable and resilient natural gas service to British Columbians. Once constructed, the project will ensure FortisBC can continue to provide reliable and resilient energy services to customers, including during potential system disruptions due to extreme weather. It will replace the original Tilbury facility with a new modern facility that maintains essential gas supply and operational capability. Construction is expected to start as early as 2027.

ASIPONA Acapulco welcomes Norwegian Encore cruise ship
October 28, 2025 — The Administration of the Acapulco National Port System (ASIPONA Acapulco) welcomed the majestic cruise ship Norwegian Encore, belonging to the Norwegian Cruise Line, considered one of the most modern and representative ships of its fleet. The vessel docked at the section 1 dock at 09:00 hours, from the Port of Manzanillo, Colima, with 3,730 passengers and 1,616 crew members on board, adding more than 5,000 visitors who will enjoy the tourist attractions and hospitality that characterizes Acapulco.

Building Bridges – Port of Paita sends delegation to the Port of Hueneme to build on Sister Port Relationship
October 21, 2025 — The Port of Hueneme, California, and the Port of Paita, Peru, are proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing a Sister Port relationship through the U.S. Department of State’s Sister Ports Program. This partnership aims to advance cooperation, trade development, and the exchange of best practices between the two ports, reflecting a shared commitment to global connectivity and sustainable growth.
