Pediatric and Adult Transplant APPs Shine |
|
Three cheers for the five transplant APPs that showcased their work in Boston, at the American Transplant Congress. Its the leading solid organ transplant meeting for the exchange of new scientific and clinical information. These APPs moderated, organized sessions, presented posters or were invited to talk. For those that applied for the APP Academic stipend, up to $1000 of their traveling expenses were reimbursed. Click here to learn more about the stipend.

NP Travels to Germany to Talk About Her Role |
Janet Wu, NP, on the Mechanical Circulatory Support Team, spoke on her role as the UCSF Ventricular Assist Device Coordinator at the 16th European Mechanical Circulatory Support Summit International Society for Mechanical Circulatory Support held in Germany. She also chaired the Summit session on the "Technical supervision in times of COVID-19." Time Study
Physician Non-Physician Practitioner (PNPP) Supplemental Reimbursement Program is a Certified Public Expenditure (CPE) program, which provides supplemental reimbursement to eligible government-operated hospitals, for the uncompensated Medicaid costs of providing physician and non-physician practitioner professional services to Medicaid beneficiaries. The California Department of Health Care Services mandates that we periodically track providers’ professional activity in order to accurately capture uncompensated Medicaid costs. This is called the PNPP Time Study. Starting in July all UCSF Health and Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland Advanced Practice Providers will need to complete a learning module on how to complete the PNPP Time Study. The roll out of the Time Study will begin in August and will be completed electronically.

Diabetes Mellitus
Mandatory Modules
The UCSF inpatient diabetes team has created a series of inpatient diabetes management mini modules that are in the UC Learning Center. The modules are mandatory for one time completion (not annual) for all adult inpatient and adult hybrid inpatient/outpatient APPs. There are 10 mini modules that take approximately 7-10 minutes each. For more information click here. Deadline was July 1. If you did not complete the module, expect to receive an email reminder.

Come and join the UCSF contingent in AIDS Walk San Francisco on Sunday, July 15. You can choose to join any UCSF team, donate funds and take a walk in the park to raise money to benefit Bay Area programs and services that serve those living with HIV/AIDS. Mentorship Matters: For All Things that Matter With Mentorship
Mentorship, A Safe Place to Make Mistakes
In healthcare, we are taught to be meticulous. We are taught to double check. We build in redundancy. We work in teams supporting others and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. We have to do this. We care for people. We care for families. We have to care enough to double check.
For every medical error, there are teams of people who look at the systems that let the error happen. It is well recognized that it is rarely one person’s sole responsibility. Medicine becomes dangerous if it is one person, alone, not on a team.
Mentorship offers a unique place to learn about perfection. Having a mentor means there is someone there to point out the patterns of behavior or of thoughts. Being a mentor allows a reminder of how far we have come and how much further there is to go.
I made a mistake recently in the mentorship application. It took months to understand why so many of them have come back blank. Working with my team, we feel that we have found a solution. I share this for two reasons. If you have applied or are interested and have not heard back from the mentorship committee, please refill out the application here. And, to show a situation where making mistakes can be a safe and a place to grow. Working with my mentors, we developed new strategies going forward. It has been a great lesson on the power of intentional relationships. If interested in the program, please let us know by filling out this form
