Student Conference Registration Begins,
Fall Research Conference Submissions Open!
Immediately upon us is our Regional Student Conference in Washington, DC, which will be presented at American University March 29 - 30, 2019. Registration for this first of APPAM's 2019 Regional student conferences opened today! For just $25, all registrants have full access to a two-day program that includes a career tips roundtable, poster and concurrent sessions, and a light breakfast and lunch each day. Students exploring research funding opportunities will be especially interested in our Thursday grant writing lunch workshop. Register here for the conference by March 21st.

This Friday, registration will also open for our Regional Student Conference in Irvine, California, to be presented at the University of California, Irvine from April 12-13, 2019. We encourage students based in California and other parts of the world to join us there! Our just-announced Thursday lunch workshop, Breaking a Public Policy Impasse: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Syringe Exchanges in California, has been designed to engage students across policy areas. The fee for this conference will also be $25, and the link to register by March 27th will be available on APPAM.org this Friday.

Planning for the Fall Research Conference is already well underway. We began accepting submissions for panels, posters, roundtables, single papers and super sessions on February 4, 2019, and we will continue accepting submissions through April 11, 2019. Our hope is that all submissions will contribute to the conversation on diversity not just as it is traditionally defined, but also in terms of discipline, ideology and methodology. Programming specific to students will be organized for the Fall Research Conference in Denver, #2019APPAM.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our student-friendly events from spring through fall!
The Student Advisory Committee is Hard at Work for Public Policy Students!

The Student Advisory Committee (SAC) was formed in 2015 to assist APPAM Staff and the Policy Council in better serving the APPAM student member population. It is currently chaired by Lam Pham (Vanderbilt Peabody College), includes early career advisors Kirk Heffelmire (George Mason University) and Brittany Keegan (Virginia Commonwealth University), and counts among its members Sarah Charnes (University of Washington), Alex Osei-Kojo (University of California Denver), and Rachel Perera (Pardee RAND Graduate School).  (Pictured above right: APPAM student members in California.)

The committee’s goal is to determine how to better serve student members, both as students and as they transition post-graduation. Its work includes:

  • Student sessions at the Annual Fall Research Conference
  • The Wonk Podcast
  • Student Brown Bag Sessions
  • Student Lounge at the Annual Fall Research Conference

APPAM Membership Manager Ryan Martz is happy to discuss suggestions for this committee's work via e-mail!

Join ASHEcon and APPAM experts as they discuss the rising cost of drug pricing, how it will impact healthcare policy, what is currently being done to address this issue, and what future steps policy makers and researchers can take to alleviate the impact of rising prescription drug costs.
