The Future of Drug Pricing and Its Impact on Healthcare Policy

The price of prescription drugs in America has risen significantly over the last decade, outpacing all other aspects of healthcare spending. Healthcare continues to be one of the most important issue for voters. According to Gallup's Midterm Election Benchmark poll, healthcare tops the list of voter issues with 80% of polled voters indicating that healthcare is extremely or very important to their vote.

Join ASHEcon and APPAM experts as they discuss the rising cost of drugs, how it will impact healthcare policy, what is currently being done to address this issue, and what future steps policy makers and researchers can take to alleviate the impact of rising prescription drug costs. Registration should be completed before March 20th.

APPAM Student Member Insights:
Alex Osei-Kojo on Becoming a Fixture at APPAM Student Events

Earlier this year, APPAM Student Member and University of Colorado, Denver PhD student Alex Osei-Kojo was asked to explain why he chooses to regularly participate in APPAM events, including conferences and committee meetings. In a thoughtful blog article, he wrote:

"To sustain either the things we do or intend doing, it is often imperative to discover and articulate the reasons for doing them. These reasons supply the vitality and inspiration to keep advancing, despite daunting obstacles. As an active member of the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM), here are my top five reasons for engaging in its events. "

Public Policy School News
The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs will be renamed the Paul H. O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs in honor of former Secretary of U.S. Treasury and Indiana University alumnus Paul H. O'Neill. APPAM counts among its members many faculty, students, administrators and alumni from the IU program.

APPAM members have already begun applying for and sharing this opportunity on Twitter: The IBM Center for The Business of Government is offering a research report stipends for which graduate students in the dissertation phase are eligible.

The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale (SIUC) has created the Renewing Illinois Summit, a late March event which will bring together graduate and undergraduate students to discuss challenges facing the Illinois state government and to prepare a recommendations report for the Illinois General Assembly and Governor J.B. Pritzker. We are looking forward to hearing about the experiences of our student members participating in the Summit.
