Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik!

Dear APPNA Members,

This week I am awash in memories of the most momentous journey I took 8 years ago when I had the privilege to perform Hajj. I realized then the miniscule existence we lead. I was but a speck of sand in the sea of humanity, and the life purpose was one of submission. This year, Corona virus epidemic has brought us all back to bare necessities of life, peeling away all our veneers. We are relying again on gaining meaning in life from service and sacrifice. Certainly, APPNA physicians are living this life of service and sacrifice on the frontlines of the pandemic.

Houston We Can
COVID 19 has been and continues to be the event of our lifetime. It has tested our resolve in many ways, changed us so much that we will be learning about it and from it for years to come. For Houston the pandemic impact on doctors and hospitals began in March, peaked in the latter part of April and seemed to subside in May. In June and July, it returned with vigor. We had three times the number of cases in our hospitals and ICU's, with patients lining up to get into ER's. "Houston, we have a problem".

The entire nation's eyes were on us. Our exhausted but dedicated Staff that had begun the return to some degree of normality was jolted with the onslaught of cases. We were fighting not only on the medical front but also on the misinformation front against Infodemic, WhatsApp, Web MD and Google MD to name a few.
