Here’s what’s coming up where you can get involved!
Trident United Way African American Leadership Council 8th Annual Book Drive – Now through May 1, 2023
Join the AALC in collecting gently used and new books, benefiting students in Title I areas schools for students in child development through 3rd grade. The goal is to provide 3,000 books to students in grades K-3rd at three different schools in the Tri-County. These books will help prevent the “summer slump” and ensure students continue their path to literacy. Trident United Way Women United is hosting “Project Undercover”
Underwear and bras are the most under-donated, yet most-needed items of clothing. This year Women United is hosting a drive to collect these items. If you are interested in participating you can view/purchase items directly from the Amazon Wish list here or, please contact Jessica Johnson at [email protected] for more information.
 
The Green Heart Project is looking for Volunteers to help at the Urban Farm
Join the Green Heart Project at the Urban Farm at Enston Home for a volunteer day in the garden. Tasks may include: maintenance, filling beds with soil, planting, weeding, harvesting, landscaping and general beautification. There are various volunteer opportunities to choose from. The Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network is looking for volunteers to help count dolphins on Saturday, April 22
Become a marine mammal scientist for the day and help the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network count dolphins in the Charleston Harbor! No experience is necessary and all ages are welcome. There will be 14 stations around the harbor and three different count times. For more information or to sign up, please visit www.lmmn.org.
 
Lowcountry Land Trust needs volunteers during their Collaborative Earth Week- April 15-22, 2023
Join the Lowcountry Land Trust needs volunteers to help with clean-ups, festivals, nature walks, and workshops benefiting over 40 nonprofit organizations in the area. Opportunities vary by date. To see the full list please visit https://lowcountrylandtrust.org/special_events/.
 
Help SC Department of Natural Resources with Oyster Shell Bagging and Wire Reef Construction and/or Trash Sorting
Join the South Carolina Oyster Recycling and Enhancement “SCORE” team to construct Modified Wire Reefs (MWR) that will be an alternative substrate for oyster larvae to land and grow on. They are also looking for volunteers to help sort trash from recycled oyster shells in preparation for the shell to go back onto the shoreline. If interested in this opportunity please Click here to sign up!
 
Volunteers for Charleston Legal Access – As-needed basis
Charleston Legal Access serves low and modest income individuals providing quality legal representation to those who do not qualify for free legal aid but cannot afford a private attorney. They have several as-needed volunteer opportunities including event planning, translating/interpreting, administrative support and marketing/communications. If interested, please apply here.
 
Support a child in CCSD with just 1 hour per week! Heart Math Tutoring trains and supports volunteers as tutors to work one-on-one with elementary students to build foundational math skills and confidence. With the support of an on-site coordinator, volunteers use an easy-to-follow, proven curriculum featuring hands-on activities and games. Volunteers work with the same student(s) all year building a relationship and strengthening skills. No need to be a “math person” - if you can count and do basic math, you can make a difference in the life of a child! Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired SC
ABVI’s mission is to enrich the quality of life for the blind and visually impaired. They provide programs promoting personal independence and vocational rehabilitation for blind and visually impaired adults throughout the Tri-County community. They are seeking volunteers to help with client connections, job readiness coaching, braille (even if you don’t know braille you can help), admin and event volunteers. Tri-County S.P.E.A.K.S.

Trident United Way Day of Action- June 21
Day of Action is a global day of service in partnership with United Way Worldwide that benefits and supports older adults in our community. Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in various projects throughout the Tri-County area and/or coordinate much needed senior supply drive. Volunteer with Dorchester Paws
Dorchester Paws is a small non-profit run animal shelter in Summerville, SC. They ensure over 4000 animals that come through their doors each year are well cared for and adopted. Volunteers are a vital part of everyday operations and they are looking for volunteers to help with a variety of tasks including walking and socializing dogs, helping with adoption events, sorting donations/food, cleaning, repair, and more!
