ACTS OF KINDNESS and GOOD NEWS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Of course all we are hearing about these days is the horrible news surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. It is scary and uncertain on a level most of us in the United States have never before experienced. This article however, is going to focus on the positive and on the many random acts of kindness by some which give hope to us all. Just for now, let us focus on that:

In Brooklyn, well-wishers took to chalk art to cheer on the health workers at a local hospital. Messages such as “Thank you for what you do.” “Thank you for what you are about to do.” And “Thank you for what you have done.” Were written on the parking lot where workers can be uplifted on their way to and from the difficult situations they are dealing with on a daily basis.

104 year old WWII vet, (Bill) recovered from COVID-19 in time to celebrate his 104 th birthday with family and chocolate cake.

In Grand Rapids, MI a group of children decided to put together “treat” bags filled with handmade cards and candy to hand out to health care workers in their area.

In Mesa, Arizona a couple spend their time delivering food to families with children who under normal circumstances eat school lunches.

Shop Rite Supermarket in East Oakland is providing water jugs and produce to customers for free during the crisis.

7 year old Kai who was disappointed his birthday party had to be cancelled, looked outside his garage the morning of his 7 th birthday to find the entire block of neighbors standing on their front steps holding signs and singing “Happy Birthday to You”

What can you do?
Perhaps you can find something in your own neighborhood to do:
1)     Shopping for someone vulnerable who cannot leave their home.
2)     Sending a card or making a call to an elderly neighbor who is feeling especially isolated.
3)     Allowing the elderly person in line behind you at the grocery store to have the last roll of toilet paper you just picked up.
4)     Foster a pet from the SPCA while you shelter in place.
5)     Donate craft supplies to the essential services child care providers.
6)     Volunteer to tutor on line.
