APRIL NEWSLETTER

Hello Friends!

It's been a busy spring and we have no plans to slow down this summer. We have lots of flights planned and new rescues in the works!

This month we broke our Personal Rescue Record ~ relocating 283 animals in just 4 days! We covered 7 states and 36 shelters. We are so thankful to be involved in this amazing work and helping to make such an important impact in animal rescue. This wouldn't be possible without our donors, partners, shelter teams and incredible friends. Let's all keep up the great work!

HOLY MEOW...the friendly skies were filled with felines! April brought us at least two plane fulls of purring passengers and we love having them onboard. We get lots of questions about whether we fly cats as well as dogs, and we certainly do! Almost 200 in the past few weeks. ❤️

In fact, our blog article this month debunks the myth of "Fighting Like Cats and Dogs." If you've been thinking about expanding your family and adopting a different kind of four-legged friend, but weren't sure about the possible compatibility problems...hopefully this featured piece will eliminate those worries.

There are some great news stories and a "spotlight flight" with adorable photos to round our April issue.

STAY WELL & DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN!

THIS MONTH'S BLOG POST

Many families with single species pets are hesitant to introduce new animal to the mix and a lot of that has to do with a handful of preconceived notions about the ability of dogs and cats to cohabitate. Certainly, there are many households with dogs, cats, and even birds all living under one roof, but there was very likely a transition period and a good bit of consideration and effort incorporated into introductions and shared spaces.

If you’re a cat house and are thinking of adding some canine variety to your daily life, but might have some misgivings, hopefully this article will assuage your fears and provide some confidence in expanding your family.

FDA Moving Away from Animal Testing in Drug Development

KDVR | APRIL 30

In Denver, CO, Gov. Jared Polis recently signed a bill into law requiring animals that are used for health-related research be adopted out before being euthanized.

This comes as the U.S. Federal Drug Administration works to move away from animal testing for pharmaceuticals altogether. The FDA made a historic decision to phase out animal testing and switch to human-relevant methods in drug testing and development.

Many say animal tests are simply too costly, take too long and give misleading results.

Why Some Cats Make Excellent Therapy Animals

EARTH.COM | APRIL 30

Over the years, dogs have been the go-to choice for animal-assisted support. Now a rising interest in therapy cats has sparked fresh questions about how well our feline friends adapt to these roles.

Belgian researcher Joni Delanoeije from KU Leuven has been examining how cats compare to their canine counterparts in structured animal-assisted services.

Some felines cope better than expected under these conditions. A 2021 study found that nearly half of 42 cats tested showed a secure base effect, which eased their stress when they reconnected with their caregiver.
