🌟 Board Member Highlight 🌟
|
Thank you to our wonderful Board Member, Micheal Hiller, for taking the time to give a presentation to our members at Canoga Park High School!
Michael partnered with Future Ready Director, Juliette, to offer an amazing opportunity for members to learn about filing taxes, investing, and financial literary. We were so amazed to see how much they learned. Michael even provided them special gifts during his quiz as he tested their knowledge.
Michael's presentation also facilitated the opportunity for these members to apply for Intuit's Prosperity Hub and Leading con Educación Scholarship which is an opportunity to win $2,500. We wish our members luck with their applications!

🌟 Future Ready Highlight 🌟
Thank you Councilmember John Lee!
|
Thank you Councilmember John Lee for taking the time to visit with our Future Ready members at Chatsworth High School!
Members were able to speak with Councilmember Lee about their experiences in the Future Ready program and what it has to offer, such as Passionate Work, Kollab Youth, and the consistent support they have received with applying to colleges and scholarship opportunities. After this introduction, the Councilmember gave a speech to the youth about his backstory and his inspiration for pursuing his current career.
The Club partnered with a Chatsworth High School teacher, Mrs. Ramos, who organized an introduction to the newly reopened Medical Academy program. We had an outstanding visit which resulted in the spontaneous gift from the Councilmember to the Medical Academy Program for $25,000.
We are so ecstatic that this event resulted in such an amazing outcome!

AEOE Scholarship Luncheon
|
On April 22, the AEOE Association of Educational Office Employees hosted their annual Scholarship Luncheon. This year we had seven of our high school members who won a $2,000 award to assist them with attending college next year.
They hosted an in person event this year and invited our Future Ready Director to attend as a way to recognize and support some of our members who won. Pictured is Marcos G. who was a winner from Canoga Park HS. He was there with his mom and sister Karla G, an alumni of BGCWV who currently attends UCLA.

Bridge to the Future (B2F) Program
The Bridge to the Future (B2F) program at Canoga Park High School has always supported the youth to attend CSUN tuition free. This year our program was able to collaborate with this amazing organization to assist a total of 19 of our members in receiving the B2F award and invitation to join the new cohort!
|
One of our Future Ready members from Canoga Park High School, Angel C., won the Black & Decker DEWALT Trades Scholarship for a total of $5,000!
We are incredibly proud of Angel's hard work. This is a HUGE win and we cannot wait to see what else he will accomplish!
We would also like to give a special thank you to all of our Canoga Park High School team for their effort in making this happen. We could not do this work without the dedication and commitment of our amazing staff!

BCGWV attended the Spring Festival at Lanark Recreation Center. We connected with many amazing members of the community, provided information on our programming, and provided fun activities!

"Volunteering with the high school students at Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley for the last eight years has been the most meaningful volunteer experience of my life. I am so lucky to work with our amazing students, students who trust me to help them tell their stories and who trust me to help them realize their hopes and dreams. They inspire me every day, and it is an honor to play even a small role in guiding them along their journeys. The students may consider me their mentor or teacher, but they are the ones who teach me the most important lessons in life. I may teach them how to properly punctuate a sentence or how to structure a college essay, but they teach me about character, kindness, compassion, and optimism. They give me hope for the future of our world." - Adrienne Kentor, Future Ready High School Volunteer

|
Setting Goals for Great Futures
This month we had the first of many STEPSS sessions at Chatsworth High School. We talked to our members about goals they want to accomplish for high school, for their future, and how to achieve those goals.
| | |
|
Sports & Recreation
Our members on the Blythe Cheer team have been hard at work practicing their dance routines! They are fine-tuning their ability to work with others to achieve this goal. This important skill will carry over into their development and we love that they are having fun doing it!
| | |
|
Fun Fridays
Our Kindergarten members had a blast making slime as one of their Fun Friday activities!
| | |
|
Physical Education
Keeping our members physically active, and teaching them the various ways to be active, is very important to BGCWV. Our younger members really loved getting to do yoga exercises with their coach!
| | |
|
Vision Boards
Our 5th grade members at Reseda Elementary got creative and inspired when they made their vision boards! We loved seeing what everyone came up with and how each individual member had their own style for their board.
